It is to promote players to stay together with their spouse for as long as possible, rewarding both players for understanding the benefits of a proper in-game long term relationship instead of jumping the gun and hoping that marriage works out well without proper planning.
I don't really think that's something to be discouraged. Don't really like the Lemon system to be honest. The points should be interaction based, not time based. And the rewards kinda suck. Also I don't like the idea of free teleport, and the family system already supplies them with teleportation. I do like the idea of a family emblem but I think that should deal with the family system specifically, not marriage, and that you should be able to have a family as a single parent.
In that case, what sort of rewards do you feel that has nothing to do with exchanging tokens for Fashionogi equipments (Which, in my opinion, would promote more players to consider the system because they would like to collect the clothing, or wear it), or skills that would promote partner interactions?
Divorce for petty reasons is generally bad. One should not be treating relationship in such a petty, trival manner. If you plan to file for divorce because of an argument over fried bacon or sunny side up, then that is a bad thing.
However, if divorce is filed because of issues like abusive husband or wife, I see no problems with that. Furthermore, I don't see how painting divorce as an unfortunate sign is wrong. Divorce is indeed unfortunate. Children of divorced parents shouldn't feel bad about their situation, especially if it is one of those abuse cases. Additionally, they do not have a choice in the matter in the first place, they shouldn't be feeling bad about whatever that has happened.
Once again, this system doesn't prevents people from choosing to leave their partners. It does, however, questions them if it is truly worth doing so. In this case, if the cons outweights the pros, then go for it. The purpose of this system is to introduce a reason for people to stay together, and naturally, having a system that promotes players to remain as partners deters divorce rates.
However, there is no means for the system to prevent or stop a relationship from going sour. Whatever that happens next will depend on the players themselves.
Going sour.
Lemon
Kek.
I am so very confused by this thread.
Whoa there. While I agree with you that sunny side up is a trivial reason for divorce. I disagree with you on the fried bacon part. Bacon is always serious business, and is a valid reason for Mabinogi divorces. It is just as serious as Mabinogi divorcing someone who believes tomato is a fruit, and not a vegetable.
