Celtic Royal Crossbow vs. Bhafel

Hello everyone. It's been quite a few months since I last played Mabinogi. I was wondering how a perfect r6 Celtic Royal Crossbow would fare against a perfect r6 Bhafel bow. I've heard that over a certain DEX threshold the Bhafel is the superior bow, and yet I am also hearing that the Celtic Royal Crossbow is actually the best bow for content like Alban. So which is true?

Is the Celtic Royal Crossbow just better than a Bhafel against high protection/defense monsters or are they pretty much the same? If the Bhafel can technically outperform a Celtic Royal Crossbow past a certain DEX/damage threshold, would it be worth considering just reforging the Bhafel away from elemental reforges and going for increased range instead?

I've been pretty confused on this topic so I was just wondering if anyone had some information. Thanks a lot!

Damage-wise, it doesn't really matter they're both roughly the same assuming you have SPECIAL/SHARP bolts. If you don't have those, then Bhafel wins by default.

It's more of a pros/cons thing.

Bhafel combo pros:
-More range which leads to faster aiming of crash shot/magnum.
-Fast speed, so slightly faster refire animation for ALL ranged skills.
-Infinite arrow. Unlike special/sharp bolts, it's a one-time buy and you don't have to depend on gacha trends for ammo.
-Straightforward upgrades. If buying premade, no need to worry or try to guess if your seller did the correct upgrades (people suck at upgrading crx).
-Balance. No need to get a high grade craft and be ingenious with upgrades to cap balance with it (it's possible not to reach 80% bal with crx if bad craft grade or sub-optimal upgrade path).
-Campfire bonus. It's actually really useful situationally, against ele-immune monsters when you have the opportunity to set down a campfire.

Celtic Royal X-bow pros:
-It's cheap compared to a Bhafel combo. Really cheap.
-You can run with ranged skills loaded. Since skills are instant-load anyway, this is mostly just a nice perk for most skills. It's really cool if you use AR though.
-Light ranged skills such as AR, support shot and normal ranged attack get an aim speed bonus.
-It's reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally fucking cheap compared to a Bhafel combo.

As for ER vs ele, it's personal preference.
Nowadays it seems most efficient to ditch ele entirely and go for ER on your bow for added dps/versatility and just use ninja/gun/magic/final hit against all the older content that isn't ele immune. Or if you have lots of gold, make one ele and one ER.

Probably the factor to consider while choosing the weapons in my opinion.

To add in to the discussion, I know it might not be the answer you want for your question, but I want to say, why not both?

I have been using my Bhafel Combo with ER and CRC with elemental reforge. My reasoning is that for CRC, in contents like Alban, where the slight refire animation as well as the farther range is important, as well as fire arrows, basically falls behind compared to Bhafel Combos. In all honestly, I would rather be using Salvation Bow rather than CRC in Alban. If you're like me, you can use CRC for contents like daily missions and MA.

Since the above already mentioned the pros of each side, I'll mention the cons here.

Bhafel Combo:
-Needs two pieces to be powerful. I mean, CRC needs the sharp bolts too, but those are 10000x easier to get/buy.
-Each pieces already cost a fuck ton more than the CRC.
-Roll dependent.
-Slightly less damage in higher prot mobs (but not too significant), but thankfully covered by the pros of the weapon

CRC:
-Not as expensive, but radiant strings are pain in the ass to get. I've honestly had better time gathering dragon scale fragments than these strings.
-If you're dumb with upgrading, you get less than 80% balance.
-Shorter range.
-Harder to aim because of shorter range, and also harder to know when to shoot because it doesn't have as visible motion as bows do
-Bolts can theoretically run out, though this shouldn't be the case because we know how many people sell out the bolts they get from gachas really cheap.

And if you want to maximize your damage against foxed or barrier spikes, Bhafel Combo is still the way to go.

Also, not sure if Salvation Bow was in your consideration, but worth noting that Engineered/Magic Crafted weapons can have a hilarious bug of having double the crafting bonus, demonstrated by this Salvation Bow: àºˆÙ„Íœàºˆ

My favorite part of that bow is the max and 41 dura.

The cause is unknown yet, though I assume there probably is a condition for that to happen.

Straight highest max is one of the "bad" upgrade paths you see often, assuming you will use it as a ranged weapon and not a judgement blade tool since you will kill the effective range.

Another mistake is using bowstring winding 2 and 3 instead of just spamming bowstring winding 1 if you have a mediocre to bad craft bonus. It's possible not to have 80% balance with crx even with capped dex, so no reason to do 2 and 3 when 1 does literally the same thing with less balance penalty. I've seen someone sell a 1% balance crx idk how that even happened, but I feel sorry for whoever bought it.

Effective range doesn't show on the item and the upgrades are all pretty insignificant so it's really hard to tell if someone upgraded it properly.

As for judgement blade, you're probably better off with the xbow by an extremely small margin. However, most koreans elves seem to prefer the Bhafel combo and setup a campfire to do some unrivaled magnum DPS if it doesn't die immediately from blades.
