Quote from Nexon:
Dear Milletians,
Your security in Mabinogi is of the utmost importance to us, and we are taking steps to ensure a friendly and fun environment. Starting on Thursday, May 12th, Mabinogi will begin to enforce a security policy that blocks mods while running the game. When a mod or third-party program is detected, you will automatically be kicked from the game and see an error message when attempting to login. To gain access to Mabinogi, you will need to uninstall your mods before attempting to log-in.
If you'd like more details, please visit our Knowledge Base article regarding this security change. If you experience any issues or would like to leave some feedback, please submit a ticket or visit the Security Update forum thread. We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of our enforced Third-Party Program and Mod policy. We look forward to making Mabinogi the best gaming experience for everyone, and would like to thank you for your continual support of Mabinogi.
Sincerely,
The Mabinogi Team

Anyway we can protest this besides writing the longest angry letter to Nexon!?

Welp, wanna start placing bets on how long before Mabinogi dies now that Nexon just pissed off a massive chunk of their player base?

Not really. I know Nexon Forums by now to know that making a thread there is useless. It will get locked and shot down by forum volunteers within an hour of you throwing it up. Even if you do make a thread, you'll get bombarded by suck ups who think mods of any kind are the devil.
Submitting a ticket is useless as it will just get chucked out the window if not worse. Only option is to try and bypass their security which at this point would be a bannable offense if you were discovered.
Pretty sure an angry letter will also get chucked out and not even read. I have a feeling that Nexon isn't going to move on this issue until the game ceases to be profitable at which point Mabinogi will finally die after sticking around for a good solid 8 - 9 years.

My question is what's going to be done and how. It could range from totally understandable things like executable blacklisting and attempts to detect packet manipulation... to pretty invasive/restrictive things like some other MMOs have.
Hell, one game I played at one point would automatically kill programs it found certain strings in the memory of. Which included my web browser. Was not a happy camper there.

Well Ruairi's definitely gonna be more dead than before. Everyone I know, myself included mods there.
Like if their game wasn't so badly outdated in terms of software, all of these people, myself included, wouldn't have started modding anyway. Who the hell would purposefully want to lag every time you load skills and what not. This is outrageous. If they're going to loosely smacking people with the ban hammer, they're much better off trying to improve their software and actually incentivizing people to stop modding...

As unorthodox as Nexon can be sometimes, companies rarely make large decisions like this without a "good" reason.
I wonder what Nexon's is.
I'm going to attempt to remain positive. Maybe it is a prelude to some updates they plan to make? :'D

I'm just going to go back to playing DFO.
Time to retire, maybe? Or play even less than I already do.

I don't use mods, so I don't care unless they do implement some super intrusive software that slows the game down even more.

I can't wait for the wave of people on day one shouting about how they don't have mods and the new steps in place just kicking them for almost any and every program on their computer.

If that turns out to be the case, we'll all have reason to complain, and Nexon may actually be forced to remove it.

I assume this means all my sysadmin/IT tools can't run (or maybe even be installed) if I want to play mabi? I know at once point I wasn't even allowed to have my vmware vsphere client open, but that went away after a while.
