The $800 isn't a complete waste, there may be some parts I can salvage from this to save me some money in components. I'm unsure if all this will mesh well together though so any suggestions would be helpful. Currently this is what I'm looking at based on what I have already vs. what I would like.
- i7-6700k Processor - $389.99: This is only if I cannot salvage the i7 core from my current PC I bought. Is there a way to salvage that safely from a store bought PC without breaking it?
- ASUS Z170-A LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $154.99: This looks like a really good choice and gives me a shit ton of upgradeability. Piece of shit motherboard that came from PC only has 2 RAM slots, won't accept my 8GB DDR3 RAM and only one graphics card slot.
- Case - $199.99 (http://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Phantom-Chassis-Changing-CA-PH820-W1/dp/B009QZH22E?tag=bestgpus-20): Lots of room to expand and looks really cool
I plan on reusing my 4 sticks of DDR3 RAM which I'm hoping will work with that intel motherboard. It worked with w/e motherboard my old dell had before it kicked the bucket.
I also plan on reusing my NVIDIA GeForce 6300 Graphics Card which I'm guessing if it worked in the old motherboard and this piece of crap HP one, it should have no problems in the new one
I already have a 1TB, 2TB (from this piece of crap computer), and 1TB SSD so that's more than covered
Got 2 Optical Drives, will most likely go with my old one
Also good for now on monitors, keyboards, and mice
I think my 600W power supply will do for the time being. In the future I will most likely upgrade that again and add in a couple more graphics cards to make use of the increased graphics card slots.
Is there anything else I should be thinking of? I don't want to spend any more than $800 tops if possible.
Current projects have me at these figures:
Total if I can salvage processor: $377.42
Total if I cannot salvage processor: $767.41
