Why do you think that some endings seem to be used over and over again in anime?
For example, I would say at least 7 of the last 10 anime I have watched had the "Lets wait until the last episode then slaughter everyone the main character has ever cared about" ending.

To be perfectly honest, I don't remember watching any anime which ended that way (apart from Evangelion perhaps, but it doesn't fit perfectly into that mold). Maybe it's a cliché characteristic for some particular genre?

Ya the last few animes I've watched haven't ended with everyone but the main character getting slaughtered. Only one that was like that was Future Diary and that's only if you consider the 2nd world characters and not the 3rd world.

Funny enough i am reading a manga with that as the premise, MC has a job that makes him able to increases his level by borrowing it from (absorbing it by killing) his team mates to kill other people that are elected by the world's govenrment to be demon lord(s) the job comes with power to be one (or multiple if a group is chosen) since is the only way that MC can reach a power equal or greater that something like -√9999 (normal humans can't go above two digits, it's is even stated that the best of the best only reach like 60-70 or so)
The difference is that MC borrow powers from (steal levels by killing) people that manage to care about him (sometimes)
Think of it like hunger games but the battlefield is the whole world so anyone that is not on a special spot in the government can die, there is no winner because the match never ends, the players just get replaced when they die and instead of doing it for glory or for entretainment is done for "Peace/Order" ( but i believe that is done for the LULZ)
TL;DR: The premise is that MC will slaughter everyone around him to save the day because that is his job.
This manga gets bonus point because it actually forces you (it does find a way for it) to feel empathy for (makes you care about) the characters before they meet their end at the hands of MC
I hope it gets into an anime

I'm not sure, maybe it's just the type of anime I've been watching that makes it seem so common. I mean, it's definitely super common in mecha anime, I know that much. There's a reason the creator of Gundam's nickname is "Kill 'Em All" Tomino.
Then again my anime standards are so low nowadays that any anime can score at LEAST a 5/10 on my ratings just by not having a protagonist who is a worthless pervert so I've been watching some weird stuff.

Oh, this. Studio Sunrise is indeed known for randomly killing off side characters (and having other ones survive explosions without a word of explanation). At some point they even made a parody of their own average anime.

I had seen Full Metal Panic until the second raid and i have yet to see any important character die, not even the big bad.

The Berserk anime had that ending, but of course that's cuz it ends right where the manga really picks up.

Interesting point, I have never thought on that issue.
