I saw some video by microsoft many years ago basically showing that turning knob thingy as "the future". It's pretty cool to see it come to life now even though I probably have no use for it and would never pay that much for what it is.
I think that for artists, or people who generally need to sketch anything for real, the round knob accessory is a pretty huge deal despite it appearing simple on the surface (har har.) It essentially lets you do what you'd do when you draw on paper--you can rotate your sheet to adjust how you draw stuff, something that's not done easily on the computer. I might get it for fun, since it'll be compatible with my Surface Book as well.
The Studio is expensive, but it's pretty well-specced, and the design is seriously impressive. So they've certainly earned the right to charge a premium. Not to mention that Wacom's 28" Cintiq is priced in the same neighbourhood, but it's just a monitor with a tablet built in, as opposed to being a high-end all-in-one PC. There's an audience for whom this is not just a "justified premium" product, but actually a really good deal.
