What really makes people give up their childhood dreams, some of them are pretty amazing?

Does it count if I didn't really have any to begin with? I wasn't expecting to get much out of life and ended up with more than I thought I was getting.

Same.
I grew up thinking I was unlovable and gonna be stuck in a cycle of poverty for life.

The spambot isn't giving up on its own dreams, it seems.

I'd guess those that give up their dreams had unrealistic or vain dreams like becoming famous.
For me, I've had multiple but one was and always has been to create beautiful things. Particularly, to create a dress up site like Gaia Online. That one is harder to do. The other dream was to see the world, which just needs money. Okay I guess both of them need a lot of money. :(
