  You can get 50/18-20 if you raft, while artifacts only get you explore exp, and pretty slowly too.

  I decided to rank Thunder. The thing I hate most is ranking Exploration AND grinding levels. If I can do both at the same time, I certainly will.

  Plus the Will is nice, and the MP will set you up for better mana shield later. Crash shot may be a good alternative for rafting later, but stats are stats and crits are always welcome in my house.
  
  Also agree on Carpentry/Other Lifeskills like Weaving. You've pretty much gotten the "easy" part done, all that is left of your build is the dressing.
  
  While you've said you'd sooner let ap rot than train alchemy, I'd possibly reconsider barrier spikes. They're a nice tactical option for range battles. Shock is another one to consider... the master title for it is really nice. Good luck on getting the pages though!
