  Why can't we just grow corn and make more ethanol though? Its such an awesome alternative resource, and will always be in demand if we just make a small transition to use it more.

  You need oil to make ethanol. The process is incredibly inefficient, and it's pretty counterproductive to use a lot of oil to create a smaller amount of gas.
