Today, some random teacher that doesn't teach a course told me to take off my hood. And I replied that I am sick (I stayed home from school yesterday). Then she told me too bad its part of the school rules, take it off or u get a detention and if you are sick just sign out at the office and leave. Since I was took sick to think, I just obeyed like a mindless person from communist north soviet china (lol communist mush mash). If I could think, I would have replied, "well i can't go home and miss out classes cuz i dont wanna be like you when i grow up", but too bad i couldn't think QQ.
So what is so bad about hoods? It's not like they represent the ghetto or something. If they want to be able to see our faces, just ask. It's not like school is a prison... o wait... Well if that's the case, its their fault for making it like one.

My school is a ***** about hoods too. Nothing's wrong with them, so idk why it matters. Teachers and authority probably get boned off of yelling at kids I guess >>

They fall under a type of hat, most schools have policies against hats. Why are there policies against hats? I dunno. Google sayz:
- It is impolite to wear hats indoors. Men should always remove their hats when entering a building.
- They can block the view of people behind them.
- The colors are often associated with gangs.
- People play games with them, taking them and playing keep away, etc.
- Hats can increase the transmission of lice
- They can be used to conceal weapons or cheating implements
Of course, lots of those don't apply to hoods. But hoods=hats, right? School admins think so.

No idea. I never understood the no hats/hoods rule for schools unless the hat in question is huge like a sombrero, which can get in the way of someone that's sitting behind a guy wearing a sombrero.
Weird teacher thing, or whatever. Not particularly the teachers' fault that students can't wear hats of any sort.

I never exactly understood it either. Nowadays, the hats worn are usually caps, so they wouldn't fit in with most of the Google's findings.
It's impolite to wear them indoors, but some people usually don't see why.

I thought it was perfectly fine to wear hats in public indoor places though.

My schools reasoning behind the no hat/hood rule is because if everyone abides by the rule, then someone that does not go to the school, wouldn't know about the rule, and be easily picked out by the teachers and principal.
they have this rule because they say it makes us safer, because if you were a person that wanted to do harm, you would put your hood up so as to hide your face.
most of my teachers didn't care about hoods up during class, cause they knew us, but they still didn't let us wear hats, probably because is impolite to wear them indoors.

Uh, I understand why completely. I can't hold a conversation with someone when I can't see their full face and their eyes. Without that I can't see their true emotions, so I feel like they're being completely fake. This is how a lot of people feel. A lot of schools also have no-electronics policies, and wearing a hood can keep teachers from seeing if a student is listening to an iPod or MP3 player. It's also pretty easy to hide a cell phone in a hood, too, as I've seen it done before.

My teacher says that it's also a way of telling whether a student is paying attention or not. I have to admit, I use the hood as a way of shielding my face when I feel like napping in class. Though she lets us wear caps, as long as we wear it backwards. Backwards only. Pretty cool of her to allow at least that. Haha~

It's like wearing sunglasses when talking to someone.
Like people have said, it's disrespectful and hides your face.

Well if i had my reasons and they identified me, why would they still be cranky about it?
-
Chiri wrote on 2010-09-17 20:52
Because they feel insecure.
But since they're a teacher and you're in school, it makes your life easier not to point that out and just take the hood off for the 45min it takes to get to your next class.

you probably looked suspicious. assuming you had your hood up to hide your face cause you were sick and didn't look to good at the time
