NOTE: I play at Mabinogi EU, we recently got G11 as some of you know, and there's some bugs that are just crazy. Rafting and Balloning, example. Firebolt doing 1 damage to Ice Wyverns? Sigh.
Anyways, the question pretty much says it, should I continue ranking magic skills/being a "mage"? I feel extremelly weak while I see other players getting stronger, doing plenty of damage. My total level is 3xx, since everyone is into censoring their own total level, amirite guys?
So far, all I have is:
Icebolt r5 (Don't flame at me for not stopping at r9, I already regret it.)
Firebolt r9
Lightning Bolt r6, going to r5 next rebirth.
Thunder r7 (One of the major problems to me, does good damage but ate plenty of AP.)
:T_T:
Enchant rD
Critical Hit rE (Too low, I know, I know.)
Magic Mastery (Same as Critical Hit)
Musical Knowledge r7
Composing r9
Playing Instrument r7
Counterattack rC (When I first created this char, people told me some ways to deal with monsters, including magic counter, since it ate plenty of stam, I felt like I needed to rank it to consume less.)
Windmill rD
Meditation rD
(Since I LOVE Alchemy when I first heard about it, I went for it)
Alchemy Mastery rB, soon to be royal alchemist
Barrier Spikes r9 (I want r5 so I can shoot thought them.)
Water Cannon and Wind Blast still novice
Summon Golem rC, loving it so far.
:thumb:
As for equipment, I got a bunch of Will O' the Wisp enchanted items, two wizard wands, one fire, other lightning.
I have 250 Int. at the moment, can get it up to 300 Int easily.
250 Mana without enchants, 300 Mana with enchants (Just realised how similar the int and mana are.)
If I keep up with magic (along with alchemy?), I would like a good opinion on what shadow mission/dungeon I should do for EXP and gold.
Please help.
:sigh:

Honestly.. If you can keep up with the mp usage then there's no reason to quit being a mage. Mage is extremely powerful!
If you'd like my advice, stay a mage and rank up potion making and herbalism.
Ranking your bolts was not a bad idea, get all of them to r1!
You should rank up your thunder to r6 your next rebirth if you can, r6 is a great rank to have your thunder.
If you have at least r6 thunder, you can spam rafting for almost everything you'll need. exp, exploration exp, mana herbs, and money.
Gogo mage. If you can keep up with the costs, they're the most powerful 'discipline' in the game.

I can't exactly keep up with the MP usage, ranking Icebolt to r5 made me lose MP pretty fast, sadly. I tried ballonning for those MP reduction enchants, no luck. Ice Wyverns take 1 damage from Firebolt :x
Rafting is being balloning too. Replace Ice Wyverns with Hobgoblins and Firebolt with Thunder.
It's crazy.
Also, I have rE Pot Making and rD Herbalism.

With rD pot making(easy to achieve) you can hit 99% success rate for mp 100's on Mondays, with a good production party.
Make sure you're not wearing full ice elementals. If you are, that's why you're being ineffective against that ice wyvern.

Just wait until the G11 glitch is fixed. That's obviously not right. While I'm only a fire mage, I hang with a lot of mages and they're probably some of the strongest lot I've seen.
It's obvious why you can't keep up with your MP usage. Look at your MM rank. Highly recommend ranking that up asap if you're going to mage. A larger MP pool is always better. Chugging a pot every minute and getting pot poisoning isn't good at all.

I don't think ice elementals affect bolts. And if I don't use ice elementals, I'll get spammed to death. :(
What rank should I get at MM?

ice wyverns taking 1 damage from fierbolt...?
Magic spells you throw at enemies aren't affected by the elements you're wearing, so wearing 9 ice enchants on ice wyverns is the best thing to do if you're gonna firebolt them.
Get a fire wand with +4 Chaincasting.
At rank 1 firebolt you should be able to 1 shot non-titled wyverns and 2-shot titled ones all while they do 1 damage to you, if you wear 9 ice enchanted things.
And like Crimmy said, getting more max MP is good.
But yeah, a chaincast firebolt wand helps.
And your Thunder should really be doing fine on rafting.
Mine is just r9 and it one-shots everything but warriors.
Unless they go deadly anyways~
But, I'd say, stay with magic.
Super-useful and flashy.

Lol at your 1 dmg glitch...
Only thing I can tell you is Magic is expensive and time-consuming, and Alchemy is expensive and time consuming. Trying to use both proficiently and equally in combat is tough, but doable.
You can try Rundal Regular Hardmode for EXP, since it has less dangerous multi-aggro situations than Ciar Advanced. Alternatively, you can do "Defeat the Shadow Warrior" Taillteann Shadow Mission on Advanced (Level 300+) difficulty for single-aggro ease of EXP/Gold.

wow EU got G11 already? xD
That glitch sounds lame though.
BUT if you can, get MM to rank 1.
That MP is delicious.
And magic balance never hurt. :p

You might as well keep ranking magic skills. Magic has excellent endgame potential. It can't hit as high as melee/range in the end but magic can allow you to tackle at least 95% of the game solo. The primary con is the heavy resource consumption.
You'll get added flexibility in G13. Bolt magic will become more efficient and the intelligence formula will get rebalanced.
1. Don't ego a wand. The only exceptable spirit wand is the fire wand and chaincast firebolt still can't tackle the harder enemies out there.
2. Consider ranking windmill and refine. The first is an exceptional melee skill and a must-have for most players. The skill training becomes more difficult as your CP increases which is why people stress it at lower levels. Not to mention it adds awesome stat bonuses for relatively little AP. Refine should be ranked first if you decide to rank skills that provide significant dexterity. Since you plan on using magic, hold off on both until G13 and then switch to Knight for easy windmill training.

About the jobs, you can change whenever you want, correct?

You can switch classes every rebirth. The skills that most benefit from the speed training are support shot, enchant, windmill and 90% of alchemy skills.

I have some difficulty killing the grumbills as they sometimes double-aggro on me, and receive low damage :(

Grumbills in that mission technically don't double-aggro, but one will aggro you while the other one will be alert of you. The one alert of you will occasionally take a pot-shot of a swipe at you; however this won't trigger its aggro.
Also, all Grumbills have a high affinity of some elemental. The ones in "Defeat the Shadow Warrior" have a strong affinity of Lightning elemental. They also have some high HP and Protection, so don't be discouraged. They're usually the most annoying spawns of that mission anyway.
