But anywho, theres this one question.....Here it is, exactly.
There is a very practical and important reason why manhole covers are round. No polygonal shape will do. Can you figure out what the reason is? (The answer is not "because manholes are round.")
Now, Ive been told the answer is, because if you have a square then it could fall through, because a circle is the only shape that cant fall through itself....Now I was like....Okay.....But since then Ive gotten called an idiot and a retard for thinking about it this way......
Why not have the road, and cut out a large square, then in the middle of the square, place the actual manhole, a circle still, and then place a large square cover (The same as the circles, just square shape and bigger, same material and height).....This is because the question was, NO POYGONAL SHAPE WILL DO. But, in my argument, it CAN WORK.....
I mean, the question says you change the shape of the cover, NOT the actual hole.
Remember, practical does not equal possible.
Thanks for your answers.....(if you do answer....)
edit: History
he question of why manhole covers are typically round, at least in the U.S., was made famous by Microsoft when they began asking it as a job-interview question.[6][7][8] Originally meant as a psychological assessment of how one approaches a question with more than one correct answer, the problem has produced a number of alternate explanations, from the pragmatic ("Manhole covers are round because manholes are round.")[6] to the philosophical.
Btw, this is honors geometry....Lol.....fail.
