Can't wait until people learn that copyright how it used to be in the 50's isn't valid anymore and needs to be adjusted to suit our new digital world. Our means of distribution has evolved like crazy over the past 15 years, yet the only thing that's changed in the copyright aspect of things is the technology to try and stop us from pirating. If they invested as much resources into trying to suit copyright to today's world rather than try to keep us in the past there would probably be less pirating.
For example, I want my manga at the same time japan gets them, and digital. Only way for that to happen is for the publishers to beat scanlators. A group of highschoolers can produce something faster and for free, and of higher quality than multimillion dollar publishers. Why the hell not pirate? There's no incentive not to.
THIS, A MILLION TIMES OVER.
Frankly, most of these clashes are due solely to the fact that people in the "real world" don't know how the internet works. They see the internet as a means of communication and a way to get necessary information, not as a living, breathing, rapidly evolving entity with a collective consciousness of sorts. To them, the 'net is just a bunch of machines, and they simply cannot be convinced otherwise in the vast majority of cases (try introducing a local businessman to a few internet memes and see what reaction you get).
If I have a file and I want to send it to a friend,
I'm going to send it to my friend, and no corporation on the face of this planet can take away my ability to do so -- including the government and the RIAA. More power to /b/; I hope
someone on the receiving end gets the message and heeds it.
