This may sound like a really newbie question, but: "Whats the best way to throw a spear?"
Is it worth spending the extra time to manual aim or does auto lock onto monsters anyway? Does hitting bossess in different places change the damage they take (e.g in the back or on his toenail).
Still trying to clear Decisive Battle ._.
Thanks

I don't know about extra damage but hitting a certain area can stun bosses (you probably already know that though).

Auto, for spears, just shoots it out directly in front of you. Most of the time you'll be facing the mob anyways, so it's not a big deal. I would manual aim just for the practice--eventually you'll want to manual aim for something. But if you're going for a spear finish on something, it's sometimes easiest to just run up to the mob and press and release F.

I was under the impression that spear stunning occurs when you hit something twice consecutively. I usually run out of spears after the first bar and then I have to solo it which works well until I get pinned to a tree or a wall ^ ^;

I perfer manual aim myself for when you start encountering mobs of minions. Last thing I want is to peg a Kobold instead of the huge hulking metal tank chief.

In the settings you can change if you want the auto to aim where your character faces, or where your camera faces.
If you can aim your camera well, it won't fail you, even at bosses.
I just learn to move myself to where it would auto aim and hit critical parts, instead of taking time to move in and manual aim.

it's not hard to aim spear after practice (the boat objects and the large fish makes good target practice since you have unlimited sec weapons on the boat)
you must aim in order to make efficient use of your money
here are the steps:
1. Make sure the parabolic arc intersects the target (the spear will follow very closely to the red path)
At close and medium distances, you can see the arc being cut off short by the target model
At far distance, point where the arc fades just above the target area
2. Make sure the target still intersects the arc even when moving by aligning yourself with the monsters' movement vector (stand directly behind/in front of the monster)
3. If you cannot stand behind or in front of monster, then you must predict where the monster will be when the spear reaches it, there is no sure way of hitting monster without practicing with the monsters' speed.
4. If you have trouble hitting it far away, or want to fire faster, try getting closer so you can aim in a relatively straight line.

Manual aim is better for me.
Nothing is worse than aiming for the wrong target because of your auto-aim. If you're 1 on 1 with a mob/monster, and you don't need to aim for a specific part, then maybe auto is better.

Manual if you're trying to hit something specific, like gnoll chief helmet, or kobold chief left shield, or at far distances. Then auto aim for everything else. Also I can help with decisive battle if you still need/want help.

As Doom said, for knockoff drops, use manual. Also for hitting mobs at the far side of a triggerable obstacle, etc. For fights, just auto-throw. It'll automatically throw at the target that would have, if everything were in range, melee-target priority. Making sure you're facing the right way is key if there's more than one monster around.
Also, if you're on West and not East, I can also help you with Decisive.

I always manual. There are almost always pots hidden where you can't reach with throwing objects so you'll have to use the spear to get it.
Also I do believe there is a headshot damage but I can't confirm this. I know for sure that the chief bosses have parts that can be taken off by proper aiming.

Breakoffs. ie. Gnoll Chief Helmet. Kobold Chief Shield. WT Savage Eye! o/

From all the tests I done if you mange to get it in the head I can stun them

Ah I think I'll just go with Manual Aim, its not hard anyway. Is the Kobold Chief a Chapter 2 thing?
Finnally finished decisive yesterday, the main problem is that my connection causes everyone to lag (for obvious reasons) so I have to solo/duo with my other aussie friend for most dungeons. Thanks for the offers though!
