I didn't see anything on this when I did a search, but is the earring slot unlocked at some point? I've found a couple now just running low level stuff (I'm still pretty new to the game) and cannot equip any of them. Or are they just basically useless?

Those Earrings you've picked up are Trophies, not Equipment.
