Do you still run from things charging at you with Smash?
Because I didn't stop until recently, makes me feel stupid dying so many times before.
When I just started playing, I always have the wiki up so I can check out the monsters I'll be facing, strategies can change a lot sometimes. If the monsters have heavy stander, then you can't normal attack them safely, meaning defense would be less efficient, so you might want to smash and petswipe more or windmill and counter more, maybe even go into magic or ranged.

you should at least use a shield so you can take in more hits. Also do shadow missions you'll get much more exp out of that and it not that hard

Rundal is always an excellent challenge to step up into the next level of gameplay in mabinogi.
If you can handle those skeletons, you're ready to take on everything else.
Don't bother with Bari, those ogres are assholes. And you don't want to be going to places like Coill or Peaca anyways.

If you have to solo, buy 3-4 pets. Then cycle through them. Stand outside the room. Summon one, have it attack something, return it immediately after it attacks. Summon the next. Repeat. Takes ages, but pet roulette has gotten me through the toughest of times...

Keep practicing. Even with higher levels, we all grow and get used to it at different rates. You just need to find the strategies that work for you and with what kind of monsters they work with. Observe their fighting style and your own carefully. See why you got killed, and take note of what works.
