But my ellipses were in character~
That aside, I don't really think it got that out of hand. If it had spilled into other sections, then it would be a bigger issue.

Not asking them to stop. Just don't endorse an event where incoherent nonsensical posting is promoted. Don't even make a joke event thread. It really took off yesterday.
But again... the joke thread wasn't made until pretty much after most of the spamming died down anyways, so it's not like it's the reason why the spamming occured.

It was all due to a locked thread in which will not be named at this time.

I'm a person who generally dislikes RP, and even I think the RP event is a good idea so long as it doesn't interfere with regular posting. For example a newbie joins and asks what's better between magic or melee, and a wizard character RPer pops up and starts yelling about how melee sucks. As long as nothing of that nature happens, everything's fine.
I agree about multiple threads for the same thing as well, especially that zufal thing. Also moved the spam event thing to the spam section, where it should have been anyways.

Edit: Never mind I found it.
There is something wrong with kids these days.

And this:

I was absent for this uproar of spam (rather thankful now even if I missed out on some badge opportunities), but even still I agree with Kitaek for the most part and Arsik for the rest. New comers to a forum that see a mass amount of spam will usually get the impression of a forum that doesn't care as much about their main focus. Of course just a day or some of it wont hinder that many viewers but the idea in itself is troublesome.
The RP even could be bimonthly and last a couple weeks or something and it wouldn't hurt identity quite as much as believed and will still create the fun times most active members seem to enjoy. Keeping it to a seperate discussion would help that. or simply just create a role play section where RP events are held and heck maybe even just general forum RP for the hell of it. I always put a RP section in things for these purposes, it can add a lot of fun and keeping it to it's self shows it's not mandatory.
I'm pretty much in the dark about the other mentioned items so i'll stop my thoughts there.

You know what, How about this? We make two different spam zones :
One spam zone is filled with threads that have meaningful threads and posts on them, a "Positive Spam Zone". The other one could have random threads that are super off topic and completely spam, a "Negative Spam Zone"
OR...you could just move all the meaningful threads in the spam zone to the "Everything Else" section.

Hard to split the two.
Like Osayidan's thread just now about being bored.
It has meaning, and a discussion managed to form itself.
But the original OP wasn't a discussion with a topic, but rather just a shoutout, and wouldn't originally belong in "Everything Else".

That's actually a pretty bad idea, since I think it would mean more work for mods to sort out "positive" or "negative" spam, if they can even be differentiated.
How about giving users the option to exclude sections from the "recent posts" search. If things get too wild in the spam section, users can choose whether or not they want it in their search.

This is a nice idea.
Should we ever decide to omit the spam section from "recent posts" I will be sure to let people know that if there is a thread in the spam section they believe has become a meaningful discussion I will be sure to move it, that way folks aren't entirely missing out.

What?
I have three photobucket accounts, all locked with a password consisting of numbers, letters, and capital letters.
How the hell did you get into any of them?
