An Arkansas School Board member recently launched an inflammatory anti-gay tirade on Facebook that ran the gamut from basic bigoted slurs, to encouraging "kool-aids" to commit suicide and announcing that he'd disown his own children if they were gay.
In response to a massively popular Facebook initiative to show support for gay youths in the wake of a recent wave of suicides, Clint McCance, a board member in the Midland school district in northern Arkansas, wrote this screed, provided to the Advocate:
"Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers killed themselves. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed thereselves because of their sin. REALLY PEOPLE."
The reaction to the post was both positive and negative, the Advocate reports. McCance responded to one detractor, saying:
"No because being a kool-aid doesn't give you the right to ruin the rest of our lives. If you get easily offended by being called a kool-aid then dont tell anyone you are a kool-aid. Keep that mini cooper to yourself. I dont care how people decide to live their lives. They dont bother me if they keep it to thereselves. It pisses me off though that we make a special purple kool-aid day for them. I like that kool-aids cant procreate. I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other aids and die. If you arent against it, you might as well be for it."
After one commenter invoked McCance's Christianity and his willingness to seemingly talk hatefully about the families of other people, McCance wrote back:
"I would disown my kids they were gay. They will not be welcome at my home or in my vicinity. I will absolutely run them off. Of course my kids will know better. My kids will have solid christian beliefs. See it infects everyone."

Why can't some people not screw themselves over in public?
And that is the first time I've heard anyone call gay people "kool-aids."

If I did have an account I wouldn't bother talking to them; everything they're saying is screaming "TROLL"
Now to there 'disagreement' with making a day for them, that would be the same as hating Christmas because it's for Christians
I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they got fired

He can't see any other way, can he?

Pretty obvious that you can say "Being a Christian doesn't give you the right to ruin the rest of our lives, especially the homosexuals."

What a worthless hypocrite.
The only way I'm respecting this man is if he goes down fighting.
I mean, this pretty much as nothing to do with the article, but the guy seriously and fully believed in something, whether it was right or wrong.
And he didn't care if the people on facebook had something to say about it.
But once the news comes in he just quickly "apologizes". The guy doesn't feel to strongly about his belief now or something? If he thought he was really right, he would go on the news and really voice his opinions. Thats the power of the freedom of speech.
But no. When the opposition becomes too great, he steps down and hides.
And back on topic:
The guy doesn't realize gay is a genetic thing. His children very well could be gay and not coming out because he's so damn scary about it.

Well obviously a lot of hateful discrimination is going on here and it's not right. And what does kool-aid have to do with gays? o_O I thought it was a kid's drink...
Although I kind of agree with the part where people have to honor or celebrate because five gays killed themselves. I mean, we don't usually do this when five stressed-out, emotional teens kill themselves perhaps in one week, so why for gays? =/ They're just normal people aren't they? Honoring them specifically because they were gay is making them NOT normal. We should be sad they died because of suicide for whatever reasons, not because they were gay or something.

It's a statement for bullying, not just gay people.
Bullying is wrong, for anyone. Fat people, short people, girls, little boys.
But truth is, LBGT have more a chance to commit suicide than any other teenager. And you know how tough high school can be.
It's not about, oh, they're just gay kids, other kids commit suicide as well, it's about reaching out to a community and helping them, because this society we live in is not fair or completely open-minded.
I'm pretty sure we'd vote for a chubby President more than we'd vote for a gay one.

I didn't even finish watching his "apologies." It's just a bunch of bull to make himself look better and to keep his job. Bosses look on social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook to see how their employees really are, and they can fire them if there's a chance they'll slander the company's/organization's/business's/etc. name.
What a crock. He's trying to save his own butt because he told everyone how he feels about gay people and then realized it was way out of line.

Oh, I thought the wearing purple was only towards gays. If it's towards bullying, that makes a lot more sense then.
Unfortunately, even though there are a lot of places who can help people in emotional stress from whatever reason, a lot of the kids don't even try. =/
