  Attractive to me means the person has a good personality. If you don't talk to someone because you think they are "ugly", then that's just really shallow. If someone did that to me, then I wouldn't talk to them at all.

  
  
  Well, if you were in a room with a bunch of people, and when you walked in, a bunch of pretty people walked up and greeted you in a nice fashion, and you saw a couple ugly (even though the word itself is uglier than the meaning) people sitting sorta quietly in the corner, who are you going to talk to?
  
  Having a pretty face can do wonders to your self esteem, and having a not-as-attractive appearance will affect your behavior.

  I'm pretty sure that I've said this before, but it's the attitude and overall personality that gets me. Some of my friends wouldn't consider my current crush "attractive"(beauty is in the eye of the beholder), but he has one hell of a personality. My definition of beauty is personality. Judging people by their looks just doesn't work for me. It's too hard.

  Those aren't part of your natural look though. I feel the same way about tattoos, plastic surgery, makeup, circle lenses, piercings(other than the ears), etc.

  I would talk to the ones who greet me. If they don't greet me, then they obviously don't want to be talked to.
  If the "ugly" people seemed like the quiet, shy type then I would approach them and attempt to make to new friends afterward. However, if I'm ignored or they seem irritated by my presence, then I'll just walk away.

  Aesthetic beauty is mostly consistent between everyone in the world.
  People in Iceland see the same beauty that people in Korea see and value it the same.
  You don't see personality unless you know someone and you try to date someone if you find them physically attractive (not my own words because you know).

  The problem with this is that beauty is not as simple as what it should ideally be.
  Beautiful people get paid more, get jobs easily, and gain respect.
  Beauty may be skin deep but everyone else responds to it.

  My point is, self confidence affects your personality. And for a lot of people, confidence comes from their external appearance.

  Not all of the employees are giving her special attention/ sexually harassing her though. Like I mentioned earlier, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I were the victim, then I would get them all fired. Although a part of the world doesn't judge people by looks, the other part does. That just shows how screwed up society is. Who made up the "ideals"/ "stereotypes" for beauty anyway? In the past, tattoos were used spiritually/ religiously and wasn't part of the deciding factor for jobs. Some tattoos(Henna) still are used that way and don't affect chances at jobs.

  Nobody made up the stereotypes for beauty. It's nature. If you have a pretty face (symmetrical, proper proportions, etc) it means you're healthy. It's instinct to find a pretty mate to have healthy children.
  And also, tattoos were used as a statement, just like funky hairdos and such. It's just now, the type of people that get tattoos are the type many companies don't want to be associated with.

  I don't think that anyone who has done plastic surgery has a right to be proud of being "beautiful" if they're only considered beautiful after their plastic surgery. Or if they're being snobby and they think they're better than someone who is considered "uglier" because it's fake. It's all fake.
  
  I dislike plastic surgery in general because it seems dangerous and scary. However, I don't really care if someone has done it as long as they aren't getting praised for their looks or bragging about it when it's fake.
  
  Also, the sad thing is that in some asian countries (my mom told me Taiwan is like this now), a lot of teenagers get plastic surgery and when they were asked why, they answered "because it helps me get a job". The sad truth is that a lot of places there are starting to hire you based on your looks...even if it's a skill-related job.
  
  On a side note...before, I didn't know make-up could change a person so much. Then one day, I watched a couple make-up videos (like Michelle Pham on Youtube) and I was so shocked. The people went from really ugly to really pretty. O_O They were like a whole different person.

  I believe external appearance does matter in reality. Easier example is, you're not going to buy a product that doesn't look aesthetically appealing compared to one that does. It's just human nature on reaction, which for beauty, is based on what Kazuni said about reproduction value.
  
  That being said, there are different scales for everybody. Not every company is going to hire a good looking person. Not every heterosexual guy is going to be attracted to an attractive-looking woman. It really is "beauty in the eye of the beholder". There are also examples where attraction doesn't matter on external appearance at all (even if initially), like internet instant messaging or foruming. Rather, it's based on the words the person typed out. Sure, imagination is bound to show up, but with no true external appearance, anybody can be attracted to, based on personality.
