If your friend bionac 4-1 then he used 1080 ap in two months. Its 360ap per rank if you do the lowest amount training required.
but my guildmaster went from rank 4- 1 in 2 months combining brionic with heavy focus on the skill.

Yea I meant fine and finest grades. I was talking about a stack (of ten leathers) when I said about the prices.
Iron ingots go for between 32k-35k a stack. Standard price.
I refuse to touch brionac as much as possible, but I may consider. How much AP did it cost him to get from Rank 4-1 with the brionac repair costs?
I'll ask him but I think he used 500-560 Ap + he did pretty much nothing but blacksmithing. The prices on your server are about 2x-3x ours. But again hes rich now and will never have to really worry about money unless he gets really lazy.

So much AP gone...
I value AP more than a value gold.

I just realised that I'm going to be more screwed with the rafting rewards to be nerfed at G13Sx (although it doesn't affect ingots much but I like the extra mana herbs when possible) and with the magic update, by I really wonder if rank 9 thunder is going to be enough for ingot rafting.
I'm glad that I only have to worry about common leathers and ingots from rafting as I can deal with the other materials through buying and weaving.
Anyone knows how much magic damage nerf for a non-magic character's Thunder with close to 250 int?

Oh? How are the rafting rewards being nerfed?

Not a very big nerf, it's extremely minor for rafting. (Unless you are directly after the suits for synthesis.) The "nerf" due to glitch fix is more applicable to ballooning.
If what the talk about the abnormality glitch for rewards are fixed is right, it will make things like Finest Leather and Fine Leather more difficult and unpredictable to obtain through rafting, which isn't what I'm thinking of doing for leathers but was considering anyway. Mana herbs along with ingots rewards cannot be manipulated anymore if I'm not mistaken, but the manipulation is usually not necessary since the herbs reward comes up pretty often.
However, if I am not mistaken about the glitch, it will still be pretty tough to get these items since it requires a bit of manipulation (you need a certain item on mules) and usually own removal of wand which kills your MP.

Bleh, i just did all the math, but i clicked the wrong button and lost it, but it was like 60ish less damage than your current damage.

Using Meiya's estimates, I have calculated the amount Rank B to Rank 1 (without master title) will cost on my server.
This is excluding braids/copper/cloths/common leathers.
The costs only involve manuals, silver ingots, iron ingots, fine and finest leathers.
RB = 5 million
RA = 2 million
R9 = 30 million
R8 = 22.5 million
R7 = 31 million
R6 = 40 million
R5 = 56 million
R4 = 61 million
R3 = 90 million
R2 = 45 million
Grand total: 382.5 million
Conversion to chinese currency this is about 3060R (461 USD)
Just to show how expensive this skill is in terms of real life money.
Such a money sink.
Buying only fine and finest leathers will cost 162.93 million.
(....suddenly feel so poor compared to all the crazy blacksmith people on the server...)

That's insane. I had Blacksmithing somewhere on my list of skills to rank up for DEX, but I wouldn't be able to afford that. I can see how it would be depressing, if you want to rank up a skill that's so expensive. Maybe once I get the Brionac thing and rank up a LOT of other skills I'll go near this... lol

Yogurticecream wrote on 2010-11-10 20:15
I'll still be ranking up just for the blacksmithing experience and the dex.
My first goal is Rank 9 though, and then I'll take the challenge rank by rank, with priority on leathers.

Up until r9, one can be fairly self-sufficient if they're good at rafting. Just make the common leather items, avoid using fines when possible. Best way to get common leather, grab 7 friends who want some free exp and get 16 kills per dock. Collect 120 leather at end dock.
After that, I think, you can start to make some real money to support yourself.

As far as I know, blacksmithig doesn't ever get profitable unless you a) hit r1 or b) get your hand on some really nice manuals. It's a money sink, make no mistake about it. :/

I'm considering it as an investment, so I don't expect to break even at all.
The thing is that it will take me at least 1-2 years to reach a decent numbered rank by my estimated pace.
Now the thing is that although people with blacksmithing at high ranks are likely to be filthy rich, I really do admire their dicipline with all the material collecting and that is a challenge that I am willing to take. I am however very against rushing through this skill blindly and at a leisurely pace. It will take too long.
Money and time are my limiting factors. Access to gold in the game is even more difficult for my case. I intend to finish this skill by next year November or December. Therefore discipline is the key word.
Now my primary concern is to set out a limit, such as how many ingots per day and so on, so that I can manage well.
Assuming that I have 365 days to do everything, these are amounts I need to average per day:
10 stacks of iron ingots (3 hours a day with my pathetic Rank 9 thunder, or buying at 350k)
2 stacks of silver ingots (Most probably through buying, it will cost about 200k)
9 stacks of common leathers (1-2 hours of rafting, or buying will cost 180k)
25 stacks of fine leather per day (this is going to be the major obstacle, and costs about 1 million)
8 stacks of finest leather (another problem, costs about 880k-1 million)
128 braids a day (Something that I will definitely not be buying and this is going to take like 640 sheep wool - 2 and a half hours, and cobwebs which might take 1-2 hours as well)
(Otherwise 2-3 hours of braid thundering if I boost my thunder rank, but I need to consider.)
For the maximum value of my time (I value my time more than I value my mabi gold), that's spending about 4 million per day, in addition to mandatory 4 hours of time to make braids. In addition to that it will take about 1-2 hours to collect these stuff and even more for leathers since there is no fixed high drop rate place for fine/finest leathers. It's very difficult for me to make 4 million gold in one or two days so these figures are very discouraging for me.
