That is the question.
Answer it.
I had planned to put in a wiki in the summer but never had time, it was going to be a 3-game wiki (mabi, vindi, mabi 2), which would have made sense at the time, but now there's a vindictus wiki (even though it isn't very good yet). There's also mabi world for mabi1.
My goal with a wiki is to unify all the resources for all 3 games (2 for now until mabi2 is past development). The holidays are coming up, and my job is more stable, so I have more time to work on stuff. The wiki itself is functional and integrated with the forum (wiki account = forum account, with single login) on a test forum and is easy to implement on Nation.
All that would be needed to bring the wiki over is for me to finish a new website design that takes the wiki into account (installing the wiki and upgrading vbulletin breaks this current layout) and then have a few hours maintenance to implement everything.
But I don't feel like doing any of that if no one would contribute/use it. The point is to unify the resources/info so people don't have to go all over the place for their mabinogi needs. So I want to know opinions on the subject.

I guess it could work if you have a serious Wiki Squad. Guru Wiki failed iirc so iunno if its all worth it though.

Unifying is nice idea, but I don't think we alone have the motivation (or the incentive) to work on a full-fledged wiki like those folks over at Mabinogi World do.
As for Vindictus, I'm not too sure.

It sounds nice, but
1. Would we start needing to raise money, as Curse uses ads and MabiWorld takes donations
2. How will we start off? Copying(which I don't think they'd like) or starting anew?

I'm not for it. Too much consolidation to be done and seriously, what's the point of having two wiki resources?
Even though you might want to have information unified with the forum, what people really want is the freedom to choose something that works well for them. I think that Mabinogiworld wiki is adequate enough, otherwise we can go on to find information from other wikis like that Japanese one.
Mabination's strength/niche and motivation lies in people, forum discussion and community. Informal is very much how things run over here that makes it successful. For now, these do not seem to make the idea of bringing in a wiki (which is of a formal setting) in feasible. Neither does bringing in a wiki add great value to these. For example, a lot of the talk that I look forward here to lies in discussion, finding alternative ways throughout the game, as well as speculation for future content. These are things that you can't include in a wiki.

For "copying" there's no such thing when it comes to wiki data. The formatting/presentation would be our own, but if r1 WM does 250% damage and needs X amount of AP, we can't change that on our wiki or else we'd be liars. So when it comes to non-facts, no we're not copying anything, and i'd encourage that to be enforced by wiki staff. When it comes to pure data, there's no such thing as copying unless you want to say that mabiworld copied from KR/JP sources who had it first.
As for raising money I'm not sure. I've been paying about 200$/month for nation's server since august, and I'm working on moving us to a cheaper but better infrastructure for next month. The new server will be configured to handle high traffic loads with better webserver software, and it's on a cloud infrastructure rather than a single machine, so it's got less points of failure, faster RAID arrays of SAS drives, and dedicated 10 Ghz of CPU and tons of RAM. Should be able to handle mabiworld levels of traffic for the cost of less than I spent on NX last month.

I think we should get a vindictus wiki at the least. Mabinogiworld is an almost complete wiki. While, the Vindictus one SUCKS(Takes me like 4 minutes to look up stuff and it doesn't even tell me what I wanted to know).
As for donations... Vbulletin has a built in "subscriber" system. Offer a Colored Name + Free Title Changes + A special Icon +(A special section maybe?). Maybe some other perks or something. But, setting up a donation system wouldn't be difficult, it's all about finding the right perks.

Nice comparison.
Well, since you seem to be set, then the wiki's might be a nice thing to start. Count me in for helping, though I'll need to get around to upgrading my desktop if I ever want to make images and vids for it.

Maybe a Mabi 2 one. Or a Vindictus one.
Mabiworld has the Mabinogi one already. And I don't think it would be easy to make as many articles as, HOLY COW THAT IS A LOT OF DATA !!!

A Vindictus one, yes. I don't think a Mabinogi one is needed nor would it be really used.
But, for Vindictus... since there's quite a bit of unrest with the main one that exists now, it could be successful (and useful) if better managed than the other. I'd spend a great deal of time helping with it if I felt that were the case.

I agree with Tasha on this. We don't need one for Mabi, but one for Vindi would be nice, as long as it had a dedicated squad.

I don't know about Mabinogi II it would be nice to snatch it though o.o

The thing is if I put one up for vindi, all 3 games will be on it as 3 root categories, for the sake of completion. If individuals want to work on the mabi one they can, even if the success of the wiki is from vindi or mabi2, the main point is that it will be there if anyone wants to work on it even if no one ever touches it.
Mabination is a mabinogi universe fansite, not just mabinogi 1, so we should either have the wiki for all 3 or no wiki at all.
