Sorry for a newbish question.. But how can I make so when I enchant Ice elements onto my set.. it only does 1 damage to me even with r1 full charge Ice Spear?

It should. If you have all thing enchanted ice. Accesories to.

Crimmy wrote on 2010-11-20 16:51
That's impossible.
Elementals only add a % of protection against that same elemental. If the damage exceeds that protection, which R1 fully charged Ice Spear will very well do, then you will take damage. Granted, the damage will be reduced compared to not having any elementals and they will help quite a bit but taking 1's from R1 Ice Spear?
The only way I could possibly see that happening is if all of your equipment slots were full and were all ice enchanted, used a decent shield, and used a decently ranked Magic Ice Shield at the same time. I survived a rA Fireball non-crit with all fire elementals, a Vales Shield, and Magic Fire Sheild. It only left me with about 27 hp left though.

Elementals will each give ya 11% protection against that Element.
9 Elementals give ya 99% protection.
So wear 9 of them (armor, gloves, weapon+weapon/shield, robe, boots, headgear, 2 accessories).

This doesn't make much sense, damage cannot exceed a percent of itself. The percent of protection is applied to the damage.
What do you mean exceeds the protection?

Er, bad wording on my part, I have a headache at the moment. My point is that even with 99% supposed elemental protection, you're still going to be taking more than 1's against a fully charged R1 Ice Spear. It makes sense that 99% protection would only let you get hit 1's but that only applies if it does 100 damage. Let's say that Ice Spear does about 800 damage(inaccurate, just an example), 99% of 800 is 792. You're still taking 8 damage. I honestly doubt that any R1 fully charged Ice Spear is going to only be doing 100's so it exceeds that "99%=1's" idea.

Oh, yes, much more sense.
And from my experience you're right.
With full elementals (only equipped weapons count) you'll take 1 damage for every 100 damage. (But combined with mana shield can take that down to 1 no matter what.)

I believe elementals are actually exactly 100/9 % reduction, so 9 elementals will total 100.
As in 11.111111111.... % each.

Why do I take more than 1 damage while fighting wyverns then?

Because 100% elemental protection through
just elementals is impossible. I don't even think 100% elemental protection
is possible. This is why I question the Wiki sometimes and try to find things out myself. The Wiki is not 100% accurate.

I was under this impression for a long time.
How can you get elemental protection other than using elementals?

Magic shields.

Oh snap. Forgot about those.
I thought they worked by simply reducing damage though.

Well, yes they reduce damage but how do they? I'm pretty sure they give some slight % of elemental protection and defense when used. Just like how Defense gives a certain amount of added protection and defense when used.
But even with a fully fire enchanted set and Magic Fire Shield, which would supposedly give me 100% fire elemental protection, I still take a
ton of damage from Fireball and I still get hit 3's in Int Fomor Attack by the Cerberus's Firebolts (Which is silly, might I add). So I honestly doubt the 11.1% formula is correct
or there's some hidden stats I'm not seeing.
