1) How much of a pay to win is this game? While "leveling" and at the end content?
I have nothing against cash shop. I usually am alright with spending 30-40$ after a few weeks, equivalent to buying any other boxed game, then a few bucks now and there, when a promotion interests me. My problem is when it takes a few hundred dollars a month to play with the big boys, or to be able to craft things, etc. That type of major pay to win is usually a let down. How is Mabinogi there?
Mabinogi is very light in pay-to-win now. It used to be unplayable without dropping 20-40$ a month, but now you can play for free at a very small disadvantage. From a competitive character advancement point of view, rebirthing is the main essential in Mabi. You can drop As much as 28$ a month on basic rebirths if you want to advance quickly, 14$ for semi-weekly rebirths (completely reasonable) or go free-to-play and rebirth every 3 weeks, which isn't as bad as many make it out to be.
Overall, you'll probably spend a minimum of 15-30$ on a couple mounts, and maybe more on other pets if you please. You can also add mule characters (aside from starting as a human to get a free elf and giant) for ~7$ each.
As for the monthly service-- don't bother. It sucks hard.
2) How often content is added?
I know that Vindictus is not really an mmo, but we are often stuck waiting for content. It'll probably take me a while to catch up and be at a point where I would wait for content in Mabinogi, but if I like the game I just might get there :p So, does the game keep you busy even after a long while? If not, is it updated fast enough so it doesn't feel like just waiting? In game events help too usually, is there any nice ones regularly in Mabi?
I can guarantee you will never, if you have any interest in skill ranking, run out of things to do. Only a few people, with total levels of around 7000+, have everything maxed, and all three abused glitches to level so much. After two years of playing, I'm still constantly running out of AP because I have so many things to put it into.
Between dungeons, passes, and the different levels of shadow missions, the combat is never really lacking. Note also that, unlike Vindi, dungeons aren't simply filled with hoardes of fluff and a boss. Quite often the mobs will be as much a pain as the boss(es), if not more.
The events used to be good, but are now frequently economy-murdering money-grabs for Nexon. Cash-shop keys for chests, and the like.
Frequency of updates is fairly low, but the generations are long if you take your time, and you won't hit end-game within a couple weeks like in Vindictus. Your gear, too, is totally modular and not clear-cut best like in Vindictus.
3) Last one : How is crafting /economy in Mabinogi? For some reasons, in most MMOs I tend to really like playing the economy, become a sort of crafter. A couple of things in some games that can completely kill this type of gameplay would be : Excessive botting, they sell everything half the reasonable price, you can't do squat. Or the crafting is based on the size of your wallet (cash shop). Or whatever you craft / enhance you can't trade after...
The only tade-restrictions in Mabi are certain enchants and upgrading armour/clothes, so don't worry about that.
The crafting system is not bottable but for basic gathering (ore fragments, threads, etc) so they don't kill the economy, and there's little to no influence from the cash shop. However, it takes a lot of work and dedication to be a good crafter and, unless you get freebies from everyone, you can't be weak to be successful.
Gold is mostly made through dungeons/SMs, many materials are most easily obtained through combat or the rafting/ballooning minigames, and finishing materials are often drops from tough monsters. Smithing, for instance-- most of the Passive Defence armours require a siren mask to finish. Siren Rundal is difficult and solo, and you need to be able to critical smash her to get a mask.
Training requirements, too, are difficult. Crafting is not stupidly hard, but it's not so easy that everyone can do it. We usually only have 2-5 Rank 1 smiths per server.
