Thanks Fracture for the reply :)
So my character name is Seradia on Ruairi finally. I started as a human for the free cards, figured it was the most flexible way to go. I'll invite those that left their IGN in the thread so far when I can. It's a nice start so far, game and community wise.
No problem. Good choice on human, too-- lets you try all three races and, if you don't like one or two, gives you free mules. Using the free card for an elf or giant is a mistake. xD
I only really have two main pieces of advice to a starting player: Pick your direction early, and choose your own path. Spreading your AP too much at the start of the game will cripple you for a while, you're best off to focus it in one discipline quickly. Try the 4, see what works for you. Getting all skills is not a bad idea, but try to focus on only ranking in one or two disciplines to start. Don't worry, AP in Mabi is indefinite, so you can branch out later.
As for choosing your own path-- too many people will tell you you ABSOLUTELY MUST rank some skill or another, regardless of wether you use it or not. I'm frequently berated to rank windmill to 1 despite that it would be a waste of ~200AP to get from r9-1 for almost no crit and a skill I never use. Certain ones, granted, are better to rank early on, but nothing ever becomes unrankable. There's always -CP/-dex gear if you want to rank, for instance, windmill or refine after the point where everyone will tell you they "must" be done.
That said, I'd advise ranking critical whenever you can. Any attack can critical, and when you crit you totally ignore the enemy's defense. You can also multiply your damage by 2.5, which makes a huge difference. The training sucks, but it's not cp-specific or anything, so you can just sorta do it whenever it's trained to 100. Not too much AP either.
