Just logged in for the first time since February 17 Dx
Feels kinda weird, cause I just don't know what to do D:
There's nothing I -want- to do, I just logged in cause I miss mabi. So now I'm just standing there and I guess I'll go try to gain some levels soon.
Other than alchemy/shadow missions anything interesting since february? Dx

Do you have a guild? Hang out with them, ask them what's new.
I really recommend to do those new shadow missions at Taill. like provocation. You might enjoy it.
If you have not done G9, do it too. Mess around with some of the alchemy skills, they can be really fun even at novice rank, even if you might think that they are useless.
For leveling, screw Ciar advance for the moment, you can do shadow wiz advanced or hard mode with a full people party.
Find people. The game gets boring if you have to play it alone.

Won't be playing very much, my current plan is to set up camp at rundal HM altar, and when I get some time to kill do a run for levels, and free rebirth every 3 weeks. Eventually I'll have tons of AP and then switch from rundal to skill grinding.
Unless things have drastically changed, I lag too much to do any of the good stuff, not sure if that includes shadow missions but i'll eventually check those out.
The only alchemy I plan to do at all is barrier spikes since it seems to be as 'broken' as WM.

One time I took a couple months' break from Mabinogi. When I got back, alchemy was invented, and you could no longer revive for free. I decided not to play again.

Barrier spikes is a nice backup plan for anything that's deemed too challenging for the party to handle. It's also a good introduction to alchemy.
It's not as broken as WM though, and not that great for party play if there are overpowered people for a dungeon run. (Say hi to people dealing crazy damage with blaze later on. You probably won't need barrier spikes if they keep spamming high-ranked blaze appropriately at the cost of massive potion use.)
It's probably the only skill that defends against crazy attacks. Come G11 there's this death god that wields an axe and rides a death steed. He throws axes which can deal 300+ damage and instantly kill players who are not in transformation with that attack. Barrier spikes is probably the only way to 100% avoid it (evasion might be another but not tested and not reliable as well).

About not being able to revive for free, that's what party is for. You have to rely on the rest of the team to help out one another if you fall down. And you use holy water and also prepare for the worst if you ever lose equips. (I have standby equipment that I will use if I ever lose a set.)

I don't have any friends online, nor would I ever consider being in a guild. That leaves only random people to party with. Which means they're usually unreliable, or I'd feel bad for them constantly reviving me. It's not the worst thing you could do to a game, but it's definitely not as good as it used to be. And I no longer dungeon.

I'm also in a situation that makes it hard to party up. I have to afk very often (sometimes even after clearing each room in a dungeon), it just wouldn't be right to party with people if I have to do that.

Even with the old service model, there are plenty of people who got through without service.
Why would you feel bad? Thing is, they get exp for reviving you. If you are about level 50+, they get about 1000+ exp for reviving you, which I think is not bad. If they are unreliable, play one round and then leave.

There are certain shadow missions that do not have time limit, and I also understand that the new service is really troublesome.
For your case, I highly recommend the 1 person shadow mission, that one is pretty easy to do solo and if you have a snake pet/poisoned weapons or Adniel's horn you can easily deal with the boss. There is no time limit so you can take your time with all the rooms. Each room only has 3-4 monsters. It usually take 10-20 minutes to clear and if you smash (or magnum if you are elf) through your entire way and don't lag too much you shouldn't die at all. Defensive cylinders come off the advance level and make a nice profit. Otherwise you can collect all the alchemy crystals from this mission, or other useful burns like calla if it's released over there.
Otherwise, you will be limited to the regular dungeons. It's not so bad since there are goddess statutes.
[One other thought that I have is to setup an alternate character to level 300 and dual-client. If the main character ever dies, you can revive through that alternate character. You can then do the crag cow mission for a chance at avenger cylinders.]

Yush, rundal normal HM is my favorite for that. It suits my playstyle/time limitations perfectly.
I'll check out that shadow mission later today maybe, if the exp is better than rundal i'll probably stick to that.

Yogurticecream wrote on 2010-05-01 21:04
It's about 500 exp at the adv level per monster, and 1000 exp at the hard mode level.
I know Rundal Hard Mode Normal has about 2000 exp on average for the skeles and less for all the other type of monsters.
Shadow missions might seem slow for exp rate gain, but there are end rewards. 31800 EXP, 3400g (Advanced) 53000 EXP, 5100g (Hard). Color/defensive are about the best stuff you can get off the mission, and bat hat w/o wings as well from the hard mode. Color's really useful because it's rank A prefix, and rank A prefixes used to be expensive before their introduction. The only thing that you'll miss from dungeons are the herb patches but if it doesn't bother you, shadow missions are not bad.

Personally, I level faster in Rundal HM, but Shadow Warrior Hard is nice. I occasionally get High Min/Max and dur Gladius/Broadsword/Bastard Sword/Leather Long Bow drops from there, and the monsters only single-aggro.

Some of it does look funs D:
But I have some pretty AP heavy goals still, alchemy will only slow it down thus making the game as a whole less fun.
Need 1 more rank of FH, r9 -> r1 AR/mag, decide r9 -> r1 for either IS or thunder, r9 ->r1 counter, rC -> r1 defense, and then once that's all done I can consider alchemy.
Right now I have 4 AP.
