I mean... the massive amount of HP that the monsters have is enough to intimidate me...
I barely finished it on ADV the other day, but I don't understand how I can solo it on HM.
Any tips or AI patterns that you take advantage of?

snake spam and def+nmill
that's how i do it
lately i found out crash+charge combo can be effective too. mainly if it crits (crash+charge+smash+def+nmill) or if you risk yourself and go close, just crash+mill+def combo. Though this wont work if they have their super fast AI as they'll rush at you as they recover from stun and will detect you as you get near them
about AI exploits you can always abuse ice counter/mill. i recommend mill because it will dmg the rest of the shadow mob

Ah... so you take advantage of the aggro lock similar to Ciar adv...
So do you attack the archer first, if it spawns at all? and what about when there are multiple archers?

yea archers in hm can be a pain.
you can try to ohKO them with magnum/smash/firebolt or just lure them away the mob and kill them
in mobs with 2 archers i usually smash it. If it doesn't die i go with smashmill. If the mill doesn't hit the other archer i send a pet after it so it doesn't have time to range me while i prepare smash for that same archers.
pure archer mob, crash shot/wm to weaken them then FH
Just work around with your pets. You can always use the pet to lure it out the mob and kill it with wtv you want or just keep the archer busy with a pet. Use command only AI so the pet keeps using normal attacks, unless the archer manages to SOG, it wont be able to attack

Yep... The multiple archer mob is the one that gets me. Nonetheless... How do you fight the boss in that case? Doesn't Advanced Heavy Stander get in your way?
Also, how do people complete all that in 10 minutes? o.e;

For the mobs, usually, I just Charge Cancel -> Windmill -> reposition -> Windmill. Mobs die in about a minute or less if I position myself right. I only Smash vs. Shadow Ghost and Doppelganger, but occasionally against a regular monster if it's faster than WM.
My best advice: if you're good about your Windmill displacing, it's a fast Human Melee method. For me, takes one or two Critical Windmill to clear out mobs.
If there's one archer, I Charge Cancel that, then N+Windmill it (so that I know it will definitely aggro me). If there's two, I send a pet on Command AI after one to distract it some distance away, and Charge Cancel -> N+Windmill the other. If it's a mob, I pot up on HP until I'm out of Deadly and have 1/8th or 1/4th HP, turn on Mana Shield, then Charge Cancel -> Windmill. I then pet play around the extra aggro while either Windmilling/Smashing the mob to death. If I need to, I can distract one archer with regular attacks while bolting another. In this way, I can handle all 5 archer aggro at once.
Shadow Ghost, pot up out of Deadly, turn on Mana Shield, then Smash it with pet swipe. Doppelganger, summon a pet, hit the Doppelganger to have it summon the clones, then use Adniel's Horn (usually will kill all the clones while not hitting the Doppelganger enough to claim it as the dragon's Finish), then go in for the kill. If I don't have Adniel, I just pet swipe the Doppelganger, then have the pet come to me and then position the pet somewhere that the Doppelganger can't touch it, but can still aggro it. I then just deal with the clones with Melee (It's not suicide if you know what you're doing), then Smashmill the Doppelganger with pet ram to finish.
EDIT: The 10 minute thing is because of max dmg and just fast mount. Like, one Critical WM/Crash Shot per mob. Thoroughbred the whole way through. :XD:
The really insane people can have about 2k-3k(?) Critical per mob.

They pretty much said it all. But if I had a high rank of Thunder/Crash Shot, against the Dopple, I'd just lure it with a pet, then Thunder/Crash the mobs until they all die. Adv Heavy Stander doesn't make it harder, it actually makes it a lot easier. Smash+Mill with a pet is generally safe, unless he runs TOO much (I've smash+milled him a lot, but one time he ran way too much and I got that position lag where it sends you back some steps when you try to smash something, so he got me with water cannon x_x). If you're afraid of that, then windmill spam will take longer, but I can guarantee you won't get hit. Soloing SCC HM for me is daunting as well, mostly because of the Gold Monsters, everything else isn't that hard too take down.

Some more tips
- WM spam and smashmill will eventually make the dropple summon more clones
- Fast pet like dog or snake on Command AI spam hitting the dropple allows for smashmill spam
- Adnial horn will always do 1 damage to droppleganger due to the clones giving him a protection buff.
Oh and I devised up an awesome technique for when the droppleganger summons the clones. I call it SmashCrash.
Basically you stand outside the Clones Aggro range but can still hit one of them and load Crash Shot, you also load smash on your pet.bIf the clone isn't near any of other clones you can use your pet to smash it into some then crash shot away. And if your crash shot doesn't kill the initial target and it aggro's you, you can smash it with you pet and put it back into place and crash it, and its friends again.

What's this now? That's NEVER happened too me before! The only time he re-summons them for me is if my pet died and I didn't attack it for a little bit.

Its true, if you do it long enough (try it sometime with an gathering axe or something), the dropple will get bored and summon the clones again.
-
Yanm wrote on 2010-12-16 19:31
That's good to know, so now I won't get shocked whenever he re-summons those clones again while I'm wming him. (Then again, he's MY Doppleganger, so he has to be clever, j/k). Joy, you said you barely finished Adv. Do you mean you nearly ran out of time or you almost died often? I'm curious as to your equips/skill ranks etc.

If you are a magic user...it's basically just spam fireball lol. That's what I do...heck even at the Dopple boss what I do is toss a fireball hop on horse and run before it hits so that he doesn't aggro and repeat until dead
Man, fireball makes a lot of things simpler when you have a lot of room for it. Of course for the ghost you can just Ice Spear + Blaze it.

same thing. unless you had a lag spike or your pet dies while you smashmill doppel should never respawn his clones again
the lag spike thing happened to me earlier. It made doppel AI reset and it spawned his slaves again
as when pet dies. Doppel aggros pet, doppel kills pet, doppel loses aggro and returns to original spot, you wm, doppel aggros you, slave respawn

pretty sure that's not true... well, it may do 1 damage in a technical sense, but when you use the horn, it kills clones in the process as well. I had one time where the horn took down more than half of doppel's hp in HM
