Elf melee questions?

  - Okay so is it possible to become a melee elf and be successful at it instead of using it as a backup plan like
  "Just in case my bow/cylinder dies or I run out of crystals"
  
  - Or even be able to focus on just melee and not need range/alchemy as much?
  My range and alchemy are fine but I like melee.
  
  - Is it even worth it considering elves can't duel wield and cannot use two handed swords besides Brionac?
  
  - If should try to become a melee elf what skills should I rank first?
  
  - What weapons/shields should I use and what upgrades and enchants to use on them?
  
  Most of these are 'obvious' for most of you but I never use my human and it's total is only like 75ish I know pretty much nothing about melee but I'd like to learn. o:
  
  - Also I was talking to a friend about this and he gave me a caliburn broadsword.
  He said it may be helpful but what do you think?

  Yeah, elves are great as hit and run because they run so fast. They have some melee skill loading disadvantages but other than that, they can reach pretty much the same damage as a human with a shield on.

  Besides the point that Elf Melee isn't really good, that sword is even worse. 10x repair rate? You pay 10x repair rate for little noticable difference in damage compared to a regular enchanted/upgraded broadsword.

  Melee Elf is as viable as Magic Giant. Meaning, yes, the build's completely doable by itself.

  You're going to have a harder time than Melee Humans, much less Melee Giants. Also, you'll do less damage per second and have somewhat less options when at the same level of Melee combat as Humans/Giants. Is this worth it? Depends on if you're planning for maximum combat efficiency or for some other reason. Also, keep in mind, the loss of usage of Heavy Armor is also an important factor.
  
  Your only real advantage in Melee combat as an Elf is the speed. That's it.

  Like any other recommended Melee build, Windmill first.
  
  Smash/Combat Mastery comes next.

  Cheap weapons for Melee Elves are Broadsword, Hatchet, and Warhammer, depending on your Balance at their max damage upgrade paths. Kite Shield is your cheap shield that is useful; upgrade that depending if you want Defense or Passive Defense, both important to Melee Elves. Basically, the weapon+shield setup for Melee Humans apply here.
  
  Cheap enchants to look for aren't too different from the same you get for Ranged. Except you focus less on Critical (if you like) and more on Strength. Max damage enchants affect both Ranged and Melee in the same way.

  Warhammer will be better than Broadsword as you get more Dexterity and Balance. Caliburn will go better on the Warhammer, unless you want to sell it to a Melee Human.

  Melee Elf is slightly more bad compared to Magic Giant, but not too much. Melee Elf is basically weaker due to no Dual Wield/Strong weapons available and low strength, and slower with Smash. But don't let this stop you from doing melee with an Elf, in the end you will be strong in ranged and using melee for combat is a good challenge.
  
  At least Melee Elf is possible instead of Ranged Giant. I would have become a ranged Giant if the current throw does not have the cooldown, I can live with 2 second load only.

  My Elf started as a melee elf and I can hit over 1k smashes with my Warhammer. You mad?
  
  Anyway, just looking at that weapon alone makes me jealous as hell. That is one hell of a broadsword despite the x10 repair costs. You should use it only for tougher enemies that you can't handle at low levels.
  
  For weapons and shields, I'd use a Gladius or a Mace. My Max Attack Gladius has 70 max attack and good balance and crit. My Mace has higher max damage and balance, yet it lacks in crit. When you rack up enough dex, go for a Warhammer with max attack upgrades. You could do fine with a Kite Shield fully upgraded, no need to go for fancy things like a Hetero early on.

  At your level probably not. You can do pretty decent damage as a melee elf. But only decent damage and thats with everything maxed and enchnats and such. Stick to range and alch for the time being.
