I'm pretty neutral about Alchemy, until I try it anyway.
I dunno, I personally have this weird hatred for it, because of the ammo and what-not.
I feel it's kinda a copy of Archers, because of 'ammo'...
I also think it's a bit expensive.
Example-
Water Blast - x1 = 10g
A good point I found was that Alchemy ISN'T dependent on stats, allowing a properly funded Alchemist (Or Semi-Alchemist and what-not) to do high amounts of damage witha million things in their inventory.
I'm actually going to make an elf-mule to try it out, so :D ! What do you guys think?
Omg - Everyone has to agree with me. The best part about Alchemists are their outfits. :awesome:

Seems extremely pointless to me. So much effort to make those stupid crystals. If I needed something range, I'd just use regular magic. Either way, nothing will replace my swords.

After extrensive research, I agree with you. All that work for some magic/range like orb/thing... - :P -

I'm neutral. It's good to have but there are other important skills.
The effort to make some of the crystals, like barrier spikes, is really worth it if there is a difficult dungeon run, or if there are too few people in a party and everyone is weaksauce. However, most people can still fight without use of alchemy. Hence, it's of my opinion that alchemy is more of an aid...
You are also right that alchemy costs a bit due to the crystals. It's not a skill for people who've just started on the game. Start from the basics and forget about this for the moment.

The special effects are nice but not really exciting

I think of it more as a type of extended advanced magic. You charge it up way beforehand, and summon w/e in battle.

Synthesis/Fragmentation/Barrier Spikes are all very useful skills for me. Synthesis mainly for Dorren's Request and Fragmentation chiefly for helping my mates finish refine. Barrier Spikes turns even the hardest situations into a relaxing day at the shooting range.
I haven't much looked into offensive alchemy, I doubt any of it can compare with my Battle Hammer .-.

The only thing I like is barrier spikes and golem, because I'm an elf, and I suck at melee.

Never tried it , and won't try it until the crystal prices go down D:< Yes, I'm cheap.

I absolutly love alchemy. R6 lifedrain does alot of damage. Golems almost gamebreaking melee. barrier spikes > Mage/ranger best friend.. Fragmentation = money maker (buy cheap silks for 3k a stack then frag them and re-make them over and over until you get fine/finests and then resell. Average for me using monday is 3-5 fine/finests per stack of cheaps) Synthesis = Huge money maker if luck/money pit if not. Water cannon is pretty nice, windblast...my least favorite. In future :Metalworking (make diamonds? ftw) Spark, raincasting (instant production boost). Alchemy rocks.

Alchemy takes too much work to rank up the skills.

Pretty much the same way. I dont really care about the prices though. Its just that the lack of stat boosts in most of the skills annoys me to no end.
