End world scenario? I for one would rather not be alive in that sort of world.

Well, if the world was truly communist, I think it would work.
We have so much space and resources to go around. A lot of people just like to hoard it all, though.

I would think we would revert to a very socialist scenario. Everyone is put to work, whether they pick their jobs or not. Those who don't work don't eat.
Equal distribution.
The world wouldn't end, but life, in a metaphorical definition, would.
Because communism doesn't work, this will fall apart easily to those on the top and everyone will suffer.

Well, it will mean that there will be bigger cities, and some of them are even more crowded. It really depends on what kind of demographics is doubled though. It would most likely be life as normal.
I believe the Earth can sustain even 3x our current population.

If we follow society as it is today, it would be chaos.
If people instead lived the way we were thousands of years ago, living off the land, everyone working in communities and helping each other out... the world can handle a lot more than we currently are. The land mass of africa alone could feed everyone on the planet if it was used to its potential.

The government would hire secret assassins the cause and cover up mass manslaughter disasters around the globe. And then they would put out the suppression field in half life 2 to prevent everybody from being able to get pregnant.

Communist?
Pff... Anarchy would be easier. 16 million people would be so hard to govern, just let everyone do what they want.

Thousands of years ago, communities are far from connected with each other. Communication across even the country was really slow, and life was very short. Life was pretty harsh back then. There is no way to sustain large population of people if people lived the way thousands of year ago. Agricultural and food gathering methods back then were very primitive.
It is the technologies we have now that allows the human population to sustain the current 6-8 billion people.

Anarchy doesn't exist.
Humans are social creatures and they always seek hierarchy of power. Someone is going to take the lead, others will follow, and a government will automatically form.

Well I think that would be better than having the current government handle it. Not only will restarting an entire government be interesting but it would allow for a fresh start as to how the government will be designed. I didn't state that the anarchy would stay forever or not at all but it can bring an opportunity for change.

As population increases the government changes to accommodate.
Doubling the population instantly is just as impossible as changing the government instantly.
So, there goes that idea.

Not saying to throw away technology but to throw away cluttered up cities and "concrete jungles". If everyone lived on land that could be cultivated, and if about half the population had some sort of livestock, we'd be all set.
We don't need jobs, we don't need currency based economies or borders. If we reverted to the simple life but kept our technological and medical advancements humanity would prosper.
All that's really missing to be able to do something like that is free energy for all, which many claim exists already, at least in theory.
But people are stubborn.

If they stopped shutting down solar panel research for more cost effectiveness and invested in more wind power generators, we REALLY wouldn't have this problem.
You wouldn't believe how many times the government cock blocked solar energy research and killed their budget in the past hundred years.

You guys ever read the book Animal Farm by George Orwell? What you guys are talking about remind me about this, as in everyone being put to work and if you don't do work you don't get to eat part.
