Heavy Armor Evie viable?

Nah it's all +2 and scythe mastery is maxed also. I'm like, 1 stone overweight.

It doesn't suck.

1 stone overweight imparts no penalties.

Also, if you're going to melee trash mobs, how are you ever going to get hit, or even have your shields break?

Trash mobs are prettymuch characterized by the way they are stunned with each hit, and since Evie has such a large area to hit, but with such low damage, you can keep them stunned indefinitely, and never even need the extra defense.

You say you want to melee, so what are you going to melee:

Mobs: They are stunnable, and easily taken care of by your party mates.

Bosses: You don't have enough time to get out, and you deal even less damage at a distance.

Also, about the damage: The more defense a monster has, the more your ATK is going to make a difference.

A mob with 30 def and a boss with 3000 are going to make you wish you had that extra 500 ATK.

No, overweight penalties are progressive and they don't start until about 5~8 stones in. When I first met the level requirements for BP on my lann, it was about 5 stones above my limit, but the penalties were all listed as "0%"

Being 130 stones in the red is worse than being 30 stones in the red.

Staff Evie's smash attacks are the worst of all the classes. A full combo can't even kill a normal mob on boat 2. Heck, sometimes even 2 full combos can't. And boat 3 and 4... ugh... it's not even worth using them they do such pathetic damage.

Honestly if that's what you want, just max Alchemy: Erg Transformation and go with Scythe.

Don't bother with heavy armor though. The INT is more important, regardless of what weapon you end up using. And you'll never be able to wear a full heavy set, especially any of the later ones...

Also, if you plan on using a Staff Evie just to melee and spam heals... Please for the love of god don't play with me because you're gonna be a total waste of space in any party you're in.

You didn't quite say that they should kill themselves, but you definitely said that they'll be worthless in any party. I just think the same message could have been delivered a bit more tactfully.

"Actually, if your goal is just to be able to go into the thick of things and play as a "melee healer", why invest in heavy armor when you can keep your current damage and effectiveness by simply getting better at playing the game."

They might have different rates, but they're all progressive.

Scythe Evie here.

Laghodessa gear is discouraged for all Evies until they have ranked up to level 44, with all important skill set maxed.
The skill set includes:
Int Mastery
Magic Mastery
Magic Critical
Smash Mastery
Agi Mastery

For staff (in your case):
Blind Arrow
Regeneration
Stamina Mastery
Magic Arrow
Firebolt
Golem Mastery
Golem Summon
Eagle Talon
Heal
Revive
Standing Endurance (rank 9)
Life Flare (mid rank)

Unless you want to look cool, or different (even though there are a lot of evies with laghodessa armor now), evies are not recommended to rank Weight/Heavy...etc just to be able to wear heavy armor.

I have all those skills maxed.. thus... I'm wearing 3/5 laghodessa armor (boots/pants/tunic). With the +1000 def necklace from the forever festive package, r9 defence mastery + r7 life flare w/ rank A will, i can tank a tag team combo from laghodessa and giant spider in hard/macha. ;)
my damage output is lowered by a margin, but i love being the last one living in a VERY bad PUB run ;D.

so for you. who's at level 32? (amirite?) i wouldn't recommend it at all. there are much better things than getting laghodessa set.

Staffies do not need to max Revive, at all. It's basically a "only if you feel like it" skill. The reason? Simple, feathers don't take as long to cast and don't drain your stamina. Any staffy using the revive skill is vulnerable and if the boss turns on them, you're most likely going to get hit or die.

And if you need Revive, then you need to cast it and get the hell out of the way as soon as possible. The player that was rez'd can learn how to use a pot to get their HP back.

umm.. haha wow. I actually encountered a staff like that in a PUG. only melee'd mobs, barely used firebolt, never used magic arrow that i observed, and wore heavy. Sat around and healed, while me and a spear did 99.5% of the work, especially against the boss. At least she didnt die.

I'm seriously not against people doing what they enjoy, but theres a line between having fun in a game and holding back your party. I agree with tasha, do whatever the hell you want, but stay out of my party if you're going to go that far -,- I play staff myself, and I already contribute much less on average than the people i normally party with, but it doesnt bother them because it's simply the potential the class was designed with, and I strive to be as helpful as possible with what I have. But such a self handicap on an already weak class is just unecessary, and something done alone in your room with the door locked.

^boat 4 and onwards especially.

I actually think it would be better to do a war edge blood prince mix. like ware edge gloves. Largo has zero INT and im sure the extra int from the mix of those other 2 armors will go a long way.

D: I hate Staffies like the one Mama encountered. It makes me want to smack them into next week. ;~; I'm a Staffy, and while I know we do minimal damage later on it doesn't make me want to switch to Scythe. But people that nerf their Evies like that make me sad. And if later on we get Evies like that, it will make me even sadder. D:
