Which Evie should I choose?

  I know I'm gonna start with an Evie now, but I have really no idea which path to take. First of all, from what I've heard, Scythe Evies are largely overrated (Or somewhat overhyped) and there are tons of them. (Question One: are there even "tons" of them?)
  When I'm an Evie I'll try not to be and idiot.
  Because of this, I want to try out a pure staff Evie because of the amount of Scythe Evies. However, I want to try avoid those "Free Rez Plz" or "Heal or Kick" or "WTFBBQWHATERYOERUWORUDOINGBACKTHEREEKILLTHEBOOSSSDAMNNNNIDIEDYOURTURN".
  
  I'm pondering between Scythe Evie and Staff Evie. The thing is, I'm not sure about hybrid-ing, as that is a bit to messy for my tastes. Scythe Evie - does it die easily? And is Staff Evie long range? Anyways, please note that I am a casual player, don't play a lot, like the short run. I'm basically leaning towards Staff Evie right now...

  I don't play Vindictus as of yet, but I've heard Lann and Evie(Scythe) are the most played as in Vindictus as of now. Staff population has been growing though.
  
  You only get scythe at level 24, so you will have time to try out Staff. When you reach level 24 you can try out Scythe and pick out whichever you like.

  Long story short... just play whatever fits your playstyle best and you think is the most fun. Everything else you're going to hear here is personal bias and a bunch of bickering between which is better. In the end, it's up to you and what you enjoy. So, just keep that in mind.
  
  I'm personally biased to Scythe because I find it more fun. If you're interested in that, then my guide should help you get started and get a pretty good idea of what you need to start ranking to be most efficient with that.
  
  But anyways, just do whatever one you like best.

  Hmm... I have more experience with Scythe and I like it a lot better than staff, but it really depends on what type of play style you'd like to have.
  
  Staff isn't completely long range, and does require physical combat from time to time. It can be a support character, but doesn't have to be...
  Scythe is almost completely physical, and I feel that it has more perks that staff, but that's just my opinion. Plus, blink is pretty badass.
  
  You have to play staff up to level 24, anyway, so I guess you can't really make up your mind for yourself until then.

  Eh, staff evies are decent. They take a little getting used to if you had wanted to play like a melee character.
  
  They do get buffed later, but don't count on it changing any time soon though or being changed a lot.
  
  I actually find them more fun, because on scythe, I feel like it's just spamming LLLLR + bloody thread, unlike staff which can require more strategizing.

  Scythe Evie doesn't die easily imo thanks to insane reaper and blink, mana shields help a bit.
  Staff Evie could be long range I guess if you like to stand back and heal, summon golem, and shoot magic arrows from a fair distance (range increases at later ranks). Firebolt (a very powerful spell) is short ranged though.
  I would spend my points into skills that benefit both Scythe and Staff like Magic Mastery, Int Mastery, Magic Crit, but getting Staff skills to E (for the major boost) doesn't hurt.
  You get a scythe at lvl 24 for free so you might as well try it to see if you like it over staves.

  Scythes aren't overrated or overhyped, and they're pretty hard to suck at. I generally never get involved in these kinds of discussions, but I may as well actually share my view on it...
  
  First, I'll say you totally have the wrong idea of what the Evie class is like. Staff Evie isn't a healer. They can heal, but that is not their primary function. They are a mage, but they can heal as a utility. They aren't needed right now, healing is certainly not needed. You'll want to pump out as much DPS as you can.
  
  I think that is one of the reasons a lot of people hate on staff evies right now. All groups really need is big dps and a lot of staff users just end up standing back with their thumbs up their ass spamming heals. Personally, I'd kick an evie like that from a group if I was hosting. It's not needed and it's a total waste of everyone else's time until there are actual raids that require it. As it is right now, they're just wasting a slot in the party by not doing damage and increasing the boss's hp by being there.
  
  I watch on raids where a boss will 1-shot people, and they're still sitting at the back dealing no damage just spamming heals every time they get the stamina for it. I mean wow, really? They're gonna die in one hit anyway, why the f are you just sitting back there healing them to full health when you could actually be useful to the party by actually damaging the boss?
  
  Staff evies may have a heal, but their damage isn't bad either. R9 Magic Arrow, and high ranks of Firebolt, Blind Arrow, and the respiration skill can result in a staffie doing pretty good damage. Still not as good as a scythe, or even close to a lann, but it's decent nonetheless.
  
  Staff evies aren't bad... you should play what you want. Just don't be bad.

  evies are popular and confusing to many, lol, so I guess that's why there aren't as many "omg sword or spear" or "omg hammer or sword".

  That happens when every comes out, right? Like I can find examples for almost every game that releases something new. For example, when Dark Knight was released, I'm sure a lot of people carelessly picked Dark Knight because it was the new thing. Everyone was using Alchemy when it was released. Elves and Giants were released, everyone tried them out. Pirates were released in MS, everyone was playing then, and I'm that in Vindictus when Evie was released everyone was playing as her :3

  Episode 7 introduces Flying Sparrow, which is a much better dodge for staff Evie. The developers in Korea are also planning to revamp the way she fights by making spells not require quickslots and finally releasing Icebolt and Mana Pistol, as well as improving her alchemy skills and giving her a "unique survival mechanism." Until those updates reach NA, though, it's a little rough but nonetheless manageable to play staff.
  
  Personally, I switch between the two playstyles because I play rather casually and level more slowly than I max out skills as a result. Scythe is very powerful and much easier to solo tougher bosses with when you consider how little staff has right now in terms of killing speed and survivability, but on daily runs and non-raid battles, I like to switch it up and use staff just because her fighting style is unique.
  
  It is a common misconception that staff Evie can't really do damage and should just resign herself to being "the healer." In reality, she's somewhat of a mix between a healer and the traditional magician who does a lot of damage in short bursts. Her DPS isn't constant like everyone else's and she does kill slower by comparison, but given the opportunity, she can wipe out large portions of health bars with Firebolt and Blind Arrow. At other times, she can still help the party by spamming Magic Arrow at mid range and healing her teammates in emergencies. Unfortunately, some people still think she's useless, so you may or may not have trouble finding a party at times.
  
  I won't touch on scythe gameplay since you can find plenty of threads about it.
  
  In the end, you really just have to try both out to see what you like. Popularity shouldn't decide for you. If you're unsure but still want a skill build for the levels before you get your scythe, you can just rank the things that benefit both weapons (Magic Mastery, Intelligence Mastery, etc.).
