Modern music as in what you hear on the popular radio stations, and for those who don't know it will mostly be Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, a few good songs from Disney peeps, rap, Justin Bieber, etc.
I personally favor modern music more, although I don't particularly hate video game music. I just would rather listen to modern songs cause they get me dancing!!! :XD: Modern music may be a bit repetitive but that's the point, the chorus is most likely the best part. Although some songs go overboard on the repetitiveness. I could argue that video game music repeats the same notes/patterns no? This could all boil down to Western (USA) vs Eastern (Japan) since you will find more vocaloids and video game music being popular in Japan then you will here in the USA.
Side note: You can find vocaloid songs on my iPod but not in my top played.
Sooooo........

I personally like 8/16/32-bit and video game songs much better than what's on the radio today, with a few exceptions of some songs. Some of which are Korean. (Bias lol)

I get pump from video game music, but I have a few *modern* music that I like.

Video game music isn't confined to a single genre and sometimes overlaps with modern music, so I think it's useless to compare the two.

I haven't listened to anything on the radio since I began listening to Touhou remixes 2 years ago (my top non-Touhou song is from 2005).
=X
But in that vein
Lady Gaga, a few good songs from Disney peeps, Justin Bieber,
[COLOR=Black]
are the main reason why modern music is sh*t.

Neither video game music nor "modern" music have only one genre. Both can cover just about everything.

Not really, if its modern music then its modern. Just modern music in a video game, an example of this would be GTA IV. Video game music would be more of Super Mario - Touhou - Halo - w.e

Modern music is good.
People complain too much. Lady Gaga is a great artist.
But what is "good" or "bad" music? Every song appeals to someone.
Who are you to say their music is sh*t just because you don't like it?
Like, honestly, stfu.
Not directed at you Axx. I just saw what you wrote and I needed to vent.
But I understand if you get offended. :(

I like techno/trance, most video game music and orchestral music.
I can't stand things like Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber and Ke$ha. I'm not a fan of rap either. :\

Yes, I am totally offended that you would say something like that. My personal opinion is obviously completely superior to that of anyone elses, and any disagreement is completely wrong and inherently evil.
D=<
I get that "
Every song appeals to
someone," but that still doesn't make it good music. You can loop a 10 second segment of rhythm for 3 minutes and "sing" all about ejaculating over someone and make millions off of the song. It's still crap, and I'll still call it as such.
I understand if you disagree, and that's fine. But you're still wrong :P

Touhou single handedly wins this for video game music in my book. I'm also a sucker for instrumentals and songs where I can't understand the lyrics very well because most of the time people are just saying dumb stuff anyway...which is distracting.

I'm actually going to have to agree with you.
The theme for FF13 is Testament to this.

Lol, then you obviously don't really get it. If it appeals to someone then its good to them.

I completely agree! There might be 1 or 2 songs on my iPod that I like because of the lyrics. Seriously, a large majority of songs are about love, or breaking up, and I frankly don't care about either. That's why I started listening to foreign music -- I could create my own meanings for the songs because I didn't know wth they were saying. Then I learned the languages and now I can understand them rofl, but I still prefer foreign music.
Imo, the thing with "modern music" is that a lot of people just like a band because of
appearance, of all things. People will praise a bad song written by a total celebrity over an actually good song written by an unknown artist. I actually don't care about bands or albums at all. Only songs. If the song sounds good, it goes onto my iPod. You won't find more than 3 songs by the same artist on my iPod (excluding Weird Al, naturally). Why? Because I frankly don't like more than 3 songs by any specific artist.
Video game music is... kinda hard to describe... but before I got into foreign music I listened solely to video game music. It's a lot more artistic than normal modern music. Then again, there are so many different kinds of video game music, it's hard to talk about the subject as a whole... I still like video game music a lot, specifically any song by Nobuo Uematsu and most songs from Tales games, but my favorite music is anime music.

I don't really understand why people would listen to background music. Not saying I don't, but doing stuff like going to the mall or riding the bus, I'd rather not listen to instrumental music only. Only real thing I can think of is if your a dancer/breaker/raver/etc.
*Rides the bus. Turns on Touhou BGM. /Hallucinates the bus in a bullet hell and starts freaking out*
The video game music I listen to.... have lyrics; the BGM ones.... I use for other things like Mabinogi BGM, although I stopped playing.
