Tell them to enjoy the game as they see fit. They will discover what they want to do as they explore the world.
The first being of course, learning how to survive.
Financially too, of course.

First off, hai everyone, i know you don't know me, but i know all of you guys... i lurk in the shadows... lurk... lurk.... GAH I MUST POST o.o. Anyway, this is what i'd tell them: This game is going to be hard, if you don't understand that or can't tolerate it, quit now. This is not one of those grind game where if i buy you all the most adv equipment, you will destroy everything in one hit. On the contrary, you would still get destroyed if you didn't know how to play. I'll help you out, but i will not babysit you. Also, know that most people will get you to rank windmill to rank 1 first. This is helpful, but definitely discouraging because you have to sit there for hours getting the skill up, and if you don't know how to use it, it will be useless to you. This is your choice, no matter what others tell you. Also, get at least one pet. Finally, disable Nagle algorythm, google it.

Mabi's the first and only MMORPG I've played, and honestly, when I first started playing I was really scared by Alby Beginner's White Spiderlings and the creepy music... and all the spiders ganging up on me in a corner. :T_T:
Anyway, I'd say the best way to learn is to learn by yourself. But having a friend already well established in Mabi help you out is also good like in my case. I would ask the newbie if he/she has any IRL friends who play Mabi. ^^

I'd tell them to take to thought what people tell them to rank but don't obsess over it. I'd tell them that this game is an adventure without limits for them to explore. Not to be like me and become obsessed with the ending and enjoy the beginning, you only get one. I'd tell them to explore Iria and Uladh as slowly or as quickly as they see fit. I'd tell them that like in life there are idiots, there are assholes, and there are good people too who play. I'd tell them that being under 1000 total doesn't make them weak or pathetic. I'd tell them that there is more to life than your transformation or sitting pose and to not worry about it. I'd tell them that skills are yours to explore and celebrate not to grind and mourn. That if you follow this you wont become like the "pros" that can't stand the game they obsess over, instead you'll be the one having fun and seeing just how amazing this game can be.
I sure wish someone would tell that to me. It's 3 years too late now though.
