Elf's Range Damage.

  Dex alone without enchants won't get you anywhere... trust me, I used to believe the same thing, since I didn't want unnecessary expenses or to blow up my cute dresses. However, then I saw people with 150 dex out-damaging me at 300 dex, so something had to change.
  
  Either way, nowadays I have 490~500 base dex when I'm ~level 80 and my damage range without equipment on is ~270 and lackluster critical to go along with it. With my gear on, it's more like ~360 max and ~125% critical without trans... notice how significant enchants are?
  
  And yes, that is with a regular Long Bow (Glorious Caliburn) and no food spam... Long Bows are actually the best bow you can wield short of a Highlander one (unless you need Wing Bow crit).

  Okay. So then this means I need Enchants. Which one's would you recommend that don't cost TOO much money.

  Cheapest range setup, which is easily obtainable and gives ok max/crit would be:
  Stiff Thief Tail Cap
  Victorious Thief/Kobold Clothing
  Sacrificial Thief/Kobold Gloves
  Sacrificial Thief/Kobold Boots
  Light Thief/Gemini Accessory x2
  Lizard/Stiff Energetic Long Bow
  
  Edit: Actually, Light enchant might be a bit expensive but it drops from Rundal Normal Hardmode... which is what you should be running for levels after you get r1 Magnum, decent damage and enchant yourself with full ice elementals (until you can access Hardmode shadow missions). You can also get Vintage Stiff caps from there, and burn the spares to create Stiff Long Bows without spending too much money.
  
  Thief spam will leave you at 10~20 HP, which is actually a good thing when you're a starting elf because you will go auto-deadly after a single hit, and it'll only take one HP pot to bring you back up.
