Going to format my questions so they arent a jumble of junk.
1. I did G9 and it was wonderful. but i was 1 level away from adv mode. Guess what happened at the last boss of G9? i leveled 3 times. not only did it completely destroy my -99% exp but it in fact leveled me 3 times ._. just to make sure im in adv mode and now i have to do find the rare book and its CRAZY HARD. Someone give me help please? Getting owned in a closed space because of a switch is not my forte. The archers team me, the Shadow warriors are easy. the alchemsts are *rage* Lancers are PUNKS. I've only made it at least 3 switches. The only way to win i can think of is sitting for every switch until i get pally. then i ctrans and do like 2 or 3 switches before losing the trans..
2. I think i need to level.. i also need more money. Now i've tried farming rabbie, and i've never understood the hype. I've ran it 3 times in succession and havent even gotten 6 fomor scrolls for those skeletons. usually i get like 2 or 3 per run. I've done math and have about 10 common leathers in my inventory and a fiodh intermediate for 1. Math was great honestly, loved the huge lucky finish i got but LUCK is the important part. I need a stable way to make money.
And rundal doesnt really level that well. so its not that great for leveling for me i guess..
3. Finally. My weapons *sigh* they're pure crap. 2h? Blech. I have ABSOLUTELY no idea what to enchant on my 2 broadswords. Currently my most wonderful combo is stiff tial cap and stiff fierce mace with an auto defense kite shield
my broadswords are just broadswords. one white, one black because i got lucky and found it in the shop (its not even full black xD)
im wondering what to upgrade on these babies to get some good dmg, maybe get more dmg so i can actually hit pretty high on those adv monsters after leveling some more.
I also have wondered whether i want some alchemy. the only ones i actually have invensted is Summon Golem and i think barrier or something.
Summon Golem is heaven. Although getting the crystals are annoying but i can take it.
Jeez so many questions and a jumble of words still o_o.
Sorry but um. i love ranged AND melee, so i ranked Ranging mastery to rank 9, when i had a buttload of AP and nothing to spend on (i still have smash rank 4 though..) i dont regret it honestly, i LOVE ranging although i hardly have the space to keep the stuff lol. Bow, Arrows, Kite shield, Mace, 2 broad swords? there goes most of my space. and i only have one horse :P
Im wondering whether ranking ranging was a bad thing to do (in fact im trying to get crash shot right now as well xD) and whether i should Force myself to grind wm to rank 1. (its like rank 3 or 4 at this moment)
Yea.. heres my skills.
Smash rank 4
WM rank 3 or 4
Counter C
Combat mastery D( i regret it)
Sharp mind F
Ranging 9
Magnum F
Support F
Defense B
Fishing E (i love it)
Pally rank 4
Everything else on pally = F
Final Hit Rank E
All bolts rank F
yea. also wondering whether i made some real bad mistakes xD. alrighty sorry for the HUGE wall of text Enjoy reading it! :thumb:

1. Generation 10 is nothing compared to the difficulty of Generation 11. If you can't complete G10 at your level, you absolutely will be unable to finish G11. Request assistance from Royal Alchemists whenever possible. You can try to take advantage of the slow mob AI that the servers have been experiencing lately. Alchemy can easily tackle ADV difficulty mainstream missions if you have the required crystals. I'll cover "builds" later.
2. Rabbie is usually run for the drops (TH4/Red Crossbow/Fomor Scrolls). Albey Red Gem can provide decent, reliable gold. Rafting is the most efficient way to level exploration and can also provide a small amount of experience or a sizable amount of gold (Tipping Suits/Mana Herbs+Iron Ingots). Shadow Cast City and Their Method have decent drops if you can run them efficiently. Several dungeons have good item and gold drops but the most notable ones are above your level (Rundal Siren HM/Albey ADV/Peaca/etc). As far as experience is concerned, Black Tailed Mongeese in Rano provide decent gold and excellent experience. Shadow Warrior, Sialib Cullin, Shadow Cast City and Their Method give the best experience/time for players your level.
3. Rule of Thumb: The more expensive your equipment, the more expensive the upkeep. The better your gear, the faster and more reliably you'll be able to tackle objectives. If the rewards from those objectives fail to maintain your equipment, you have failed. Melee weapons will need a bit more love than ranged weapons at your level. Work with cheap enchants, if any at all. Don't bother to bless your gear and don't dye anything if you can help it. I've seen players waste holy water on gear that's worth less than the holy water itself.
4. Specialize. Work on your windmill/refine, if possible. Save AP to rank Critical Hit as soon as you can. Focus on melee, range, magic or alchemy.

Awesome o_o I think i have good enough equipment (some heavy armor, a stiff tail cap, kite shield, its pretty much what i need)
The problem i get in these missions is the fact that i get multi targeted. And since im new to adv, i dont really have that much damage on these guys yet, not until i get stronger, rank more of my skills, and maybe upgrade these broadswords with some good upgrades (although cheap or something) I wold invest in barrier spikes but im not sure whether all that AP would be good to use on it. I also have done no refine since i recently started ranking range lol.
Rafting is actually much easier for me now since i have ranging so i'll try and do that, i was suggested shadow cast city yesterday and i absolutely loved it and its gold/exp rewards.
I try to rank my windmill on weekends, its when i have the most time and it doesn't seem the most time consuming seeing as i have school and all.
G11 is super hard? i haven't researched G11 yet although i was thinking it would obviously be harder than G10. The monsters themselves in G10 are easy, including the ghosts.. its just the teaming. Do you have any suggestions? and i do windmill xD. although ranged attacks from alchemists = *deadly* and the rangers are easy but 2 always target me which is a bad situation. Although Rank F Charge helps me take care of one, that one has enough hp to hold me until the other one shoots me.

the reason braodswords are considered to be the best sword involves a lot of factors. One of those factors is cheap cost compared to more powerful weapons like war swords. Another factor is the high critical rate the swords offer when paired with high max damage (most weapons sacrifice one for the other). However, the big drawback of these swords is that they are very unfriendly to low- to mid-game characters. Balance plays a large role in how stable your damage is, and broadswords have very little of that. End-game players compensate for this by having a really high dex (which provides extra balance).
Now, since you just started range skills, don't have refine or other life skills to give a lot of dex, you don't have that kind of "high" dex to make the most efficient use of the best upgrade path for broadswords (the 222 path). Your options are either to put those swords in the bank for now and save them for when you can do that, or upgrade them in a path more suited to your level of skills with the idea of replacing them later when you outgrow them. Either way you're going to want to get your hands on another plair of blades. Either another pair of broadswords, or the more expensive to repair but better suited gladius.
another thing you will want to do is work on collecting some damage boosting enchants. Fox is a really popular beginner's enchant that is still really cheap, and comes from a couple of different dungeons (but most commonly from ciar). If you hang out in karu and maize dungeons for awhile you can get apatite, quartz, and topaz enchants that all boost max damage as long as your explore level is high enough.
There really isn't much reason to rush your completion of generation quests. Take this time to train your skills, upgrade your gear, and pursue other goals. After a few rebirths you'll be armed with higher ranked skills and better gear, and you'll have the damage to take threats out more quickly. You also have a huge gap of levels between your current 300-ish total level and the 1k total level that will bump you up in difficulty again.

Okay i did have a dura 8 98% prof gladius so i decided to use it with my broadsword. you are completely right Cyro and my damage went from 1-11 dmg to 30-45. and much more criticals. Now i have no idea where to get Fox although i suppose i'll just check the wiki. and i do not hang out in karu OR maize sadly, way too much stress with maize. I despise those ghosts lol
I forgot to add i DO have rank F potion making but no refine, blacksmith, weaving, or any of the sort
I actually like refine (excluding the higher levels. thats where it becomes hell..) and im not so liking blacksmith on my giant (although mining is kinda fun)
Should i rank barrier spikes? i was thinking it would have a great impact on my fighting later on. especcialy with those multi aggros if i can range from behind it. Golem is obviously self explanatory and i suppose i wont be ranking it until my alchemy mastery is much higher.
and can someone explain G11? i want to understand the hell that breaks loose. is there flaming dogs!?

I've done G10 within 2 days on Hardmode, but took at least 1 and 1/2 months on G11.
Mostly, it was because I couldn't find Royal Alchemist Help, though ^^;; but I was really cheap and spammed CC +4 Firebolt with literally unlimited supply of MP100s.
For G10, don't expect to get help, since most missions are solo. What really helped me is that upgrading your weapons significantly increase your damage, and if that's not enough, you need to go and get a pet to do some swiping for you.
In Switch Rooms, go for Archers first, and if there are more than one archer, make a pet continuously attack the aggroing archer. Since they don't have a melee attack, you should be fine.
Learn the Monster AI. Dammit, I cannot stress this enough. I've seen level 300s fail at Rabbie. WHY?!
Learn that Defense is the BEST option for "Bone" Shadow Monsters after Windmill
Learn that you CAN use smash after windmill on normal shadow monsters. (This includes the daggone Alchemist)
Learn to use magic to finish off low-hp monsters
And most of all, learn that Range doesn't do much damage at your level.
EDIT: For G11, the monsters just have
High HP, High Defense/Protection, and High Attack rates. That's just cause for trouble.
Even so, most of the time, it's not multiaggro, so you can use this to your advantage.
Later on, however, the massive HP WILL get to you. I suggest that you rank windmill now. You will be glad you can crit with it.
In the prefinal, don't forget to bring people. It will LITERALLY be HELL. If you don't believe me, watch a video of G11 Prefinal Hardmode on Youtube or something.... Yeah... Monsters have over 5000 HP EACH. Don't except to 1hko them.

i actually kinda know the AI for the shadow mobs. my best bolt is lightning C lol I do try touse defense after windmill although it usually helps whne i use my macee+shield combo the most.
and i seriously know NOTHING about upgrading
i have no idea what to upgrade on my gladius or broadsword in my gladius's seeing as instead of a gladius + broadsword combo i've decided to just dual wield gladiuses

Gladiuses can be upgraded with a 230 method I believe. It provides stable damage with stable balance and critical to boot, so it's the best upgrade path for players with low dex. Although I really prefer an Upgraded Mace with a Kite Shield or some other Shield, mostly for the defense to take hits. Rank Icebolt to 9 or LB to 5, it's almost a necessity for Meleers for attracting monsters and picking them off due to a quicker casting time. A 1.5 Second Bolt will save you from a situation. A 2.0 Second Bolt will not. Exceptions to this are Firebolt since that knocks enemies back.

Cryosite wrote on 2011-01-04 03:25
The simple basics of upgrading: whenever you hit monsters with weapons you gain proficiency (proff). There are some factors to this, but just make sure you'r eusing your swords on things that are not "weakest" to you, and you'll gain some. Most of the advice that you'll hear about proffinf from others involves "ideal" proffing methods. I suggest just sticking to using your swords normally to fight, and just let them accumulate proff that way. You'll have a lot on your hands to deal with other than spending time and money on dedicated proffing.
Upgrades can be placed on weapons for a cost of gold and proff by talking to varous npc's. I'd suggest opening the wiki for gladius and/or broadsword, and finding the part in those large tables that tells you what npc(s) you'll need to visit for the upgrades, and as a reference for costs and things.
Also not readily apparent to most til it is explained: terms like 222 broadsword or 230 gladius are an "upgrade path." The numbers represent an amount of proff needed to completely do the upgrade path, and often are unique to the weapon. so different paths can be readily identified by that naming system. A path simply cosists of 5 upgrades, and typically displays a choice of upgrades that focus a weapon in particular ways. Some towards critical, some towards damage, and so on. The gladius I recommend to you because it has a high minimum damage and high balance, while offering pretty good max damage. a 222 broadsword does higher max damage, but the low minimum and low balance mean you will hit low numbers a lot, and rarely hit high numbers. Gladius' high min makes the low numbers higher, and the high balance means you'll hit high numbers more often anyway.
If you check out the upgrades for both swords, you'll see how those blades are so different... a lot has to do with the upgrade options available.
The wiki is a great resource; indeed look up things like enchants when people suggest them to you. Asses how hard those enchants would be for you to get, if you are at all familiar with the location they drop in. If you're not, take some time to try those dungeons or missions to find out. Ideally you want to spend a good bit of time in places where you earn money, earn exp, hit things that are not weakest, and give treasure that is useful to your goals.
In general you want to increase your damage. Increasing max damage (through upgrades or enchants) is always a safe bet, unless that increase comes with some kind of drawback. as you gain experience in the game, you'll be able to learn better how to asses those drawbacks versus rewards, but for now "more is better" philosophy will not often be wrong.
Increasing strength (like through the enchant "giant" will also increase your damage. 10 points of str = +4 max damage, +3 min.
Boosting Dex will increase your balance. Since balance is capped at 80%, then dex becomes low importance if you hit 80% with your weapons. But you'll notice when you compare swords, you won't have as high of balance without that extra dex. how much your dex improve balance is (dex-10)/4, which mostly means to you that +4 dex will mean +1% balance.
Later on, critical will become important. Items like that stiff tail cap will become obvious when you start to value critical hits more.

I understand the proffing system and soft or upgrading. I used to sell 100% prof items to people. and i see what you mean about the wiki. So the wiki would tell me about this 230 system right? and also LB to rank 5 swould be wonderful. i dont really like icebolt more than LB and i use a stiff fierce mace with a kite shield. the damage reduced is always wonderful although the mace hits so low its only worth it to pull out during pally or when i need to charge/ face off against archers.
EDIT: After looking on the wiki, the 230 method looks great. although i dont understand how critical is in there.. it says 0% o_o

Oh I made a mistake. There is no critical on Upgraded Gladiuses most of the time due to their stable output damage and balance for balancing purposes. Then again, I was simply guessing and that info rotted in my brain ever since G3. ><
I personally prefer the Mace/Kite Shield combo to improve your survivability in dungeons though. An upgraded Mace packs a punch while still proving you the balance to hit in the max damage range. If you check the Wiki, you can try the 195 or 215 upgrade paths for a Mace.
For more detail on upgrade paths, the numbers basically mean the amount of prof you'll need to fully complete that upgrade path.

can you upgrade a mace that has enchants on it? or do i get a seperate mace for damage while my stiff fierce would be for WM training?
Also i love maces too o_o i think i'll upgrade both and see which one i like better. Proffings not so hard anyway.

Spirit is the transform right? i was thinking to max that first because that would mean an overall increase wouldn't it?
also eye of order raises dex right? i'll rank it if it does o_o
