DISSIDIA 012 [duodecim] FINAL FANTASY
Platform: PSP
Share |
Rating: Teen
Content descriptors: Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, Partial Nudity, Suggestive Themes
Rating summary:
This is an action game in which players compete in one-on-one battles with characters from the Final Fantasy universe. Players engage in hand-to-hand combat in 3D arenas and use axes, swords, boomerangs, and magic spells (e.g., energy balls, summoned creatures) to drain opponents' life meters. Battles are highlighted by cries of pain, colorful explosions, and slow-motion sequences that zoom in on defeated characters. A handful of female characters wear revealing outfits that expose large amounts of cleavage; some of these characters' breasts also jiggle during combat. Some in-game text in also contains suggestive material (e.g., "Here's a better idea: 'Zoom camera into Tifa's cleavage!'"). Various portrait galleries depict partially nude female characters; the general shapes of their bodies are displayed instead of actual detail (i.e., no nipples or genitalia). The words "a*s," "damn," and "hell" appear in the dialogue.

I actually prefer Vaan over most of the other 3D FF protagonists... maybe not over the supporting cast, though.
And this isn't news. Decent games in this day in age have physics engines.

Tifa by far surpasses Morrighan in every way, including cleavage size.
I don't mind them adding Vaan, though it'd be more interesting if they added someone from Tactics, Tactics Advance or Advance 2.

The jiggle physics are going to have to defy gravity if it's going to try to pull me away from Dead or Alive: Paradise.

Seriously, he isn't. Just because you control him, doesn't make him the protagonist. He's only important for up to like 1/4 of the game, then after that point he, as he says himself, is just along for the ride. Balthier was a much better character, and often said that it was his story, Ashe was the one who the story actually revolved around, and Basche was the one who was originally going to be the protagonist, but got ousted for the effeminate Vaan who's characteristic and personallity was awful and had no development after a certain point until the sequel of FFXII. Really, if it wasn't because SquareEnix was trying to reach out to female gamers with Vaan, he wouldn't have been the protagonist at all. He would have just been a "support" character along with Penelo, and we all know how much development she's gotten.

I think you need to refamiliarize yourself with the full meaning of the term 'protagonist.' Wiki is a nice start. You could argue that Vaan is a 'false protagonist,' which is still a protagonist in my book. Usually just the protagonist for one or so subplots.
[EDIT] A protagonist does not have to be the protagonist for the entire work to obtain the title. The fact that, in your own words, he was important for 1/4 of the game pretty much grants him that role. At which point he steps down, which is a technique of false protagonists.
