I'm making a Life Skills alt to make money, and was wondering on any tips or suggestions the nation may have for me.
Firstly, I am making a human (any complaints?) and if I get to dilemma'd by the speed, last-minute elf (probably this. -.-)
What life skills (that are relatively cheap to start in) will make me the most money?
What tools do I need?

I think in the beginning, pot making will make you the most money. MP 100s sell for more than 20k a stack in all the servers, but you'll need a constant source of herbs.
In the long run, blacksmithing or synthesis would probably be better options.

Weaving is a good option if you decide to sell the thin threads for about 6k a stack and thick threads for 10-12k a stack on Ruairi.

In the long run, Blacksmith and Tailor are usually the most profitable Lifeskills, but selling Thick/Thin threads is easy money like Jovo said.

Cooking is pretty useful when you get to r9, as you can make 'loved' food for Hotspring monkeys and get pretty darn good items in return.
Cooking isn't that hard to rank and is pretty AP friendly, it just gets a bit tedious. (You'll also need a shet-ton of berries, seeing how you're required to eat most of the food you cook.)
Basic rewards from them are Jewels (usually 3cm), glowing statues, fine/finest leather, and some armor bits.

Metallurgy (up some gems)
Blacksmith
Refining (Think iron ingots)
Tailoring
Pot Making
Weaving
Carpentry (providing you can craft those ever elusive S Grade bows)
And while not a life skill, thumbs up to the person who said synthesis~

Same difference. Although it isn't a life skill, I've always seen it as one, since the outcome is pretty much the same.

Alternatively either don't worry since it's an alt and it'll rebirth a few times in the process, or learn to appreciate a cushier form. Either way, no bush punching!

I overlooked the alt part, derpity. On that note, NEVER RANK COOKING ON A MAIN.
I sound like godzilla when I walk nao.

Metallurgy provides reliable income with little investment. Potion Making is the alternative. Mana potions are always in demand and mages will shell out good money in order to obtain them.
Refine will not make you any money. You'll end up investing far too much gold/time gathering ore when you could obtain iron ingots faster through the rafting minigame. Weaving can net a decent amount of gold if you choose to sell thin threads to other players. Carpentry isn't too difficult to rank compared to some of the other life skills and the higher ranged weapon grades can often sell for a decent amount of income. These skills are difficult to rank.
Blacksmithing and Tailoring are fancy skills that will likely leave you in a large amount of debt. If you can rank Blacksmithing, chances are you don't need the money.

Aw, what's so wrong about having a chubby main? Looks good with the proper outfits, though that's kinda rare since Devcat somehow put in weight changes but didn't actually make any of the clothing non-breaking with someone non-anorexic.
Actually on that regard yeah, maybe it's best not to break your outfit polygons.
Cripes I'm focussing on this way too much.

really guys Tailoring and blacksmithing DO NOT make you money until you've spent over 100 mil.
Unless you get a rare pattern for tailoring.
Also the best skill to rank first for money is cooking. It will cost you about 300k-400k or so to rank it to r9 but once you do you can do a few things. First is to spam feed monkeys shrimp fried rice. This is always a good profit maker (I've made over 1 mil in a day on that). The other is to do the cooking lists with a Giant alt under level 100(basic is SOOO easy). rank up cooking them get some strong melee done and they can make those lists that sell for 250k very easily.
Cooking is the best money maker for the cost to get the skill ranked.
Do we have a cooking guide?

Do not make an alt for anything except storage. Rank all your skills on your main. They give stats, and you'll want those stats eventually.

"Blacksmithing does not need money", that statement is not entirely true. This still requires other players to buy products from that said person. My friend is r1 smith but he's extremely poor. Mystery boxes ruined armors by flooding the game with 7/5 dustins; he can't even sell a 6/4/26 sigged valencia for 1 mil anymore. Neither can he sell broadswords at even 90k. Blacksmith at this point is a HUGE money sink.
r1 tailor manuals provide decent income as Zyrus said, however, most of the time you'll have to undercut most "fashionogi prices" by 1-2 mil if you ever want to get a money-only offer. However, you'd probably spend up to 20 mil (without double rainbow) trying to get to r1 tailoring.
Small life skill things that people will want over and over again tend to sell well, which I've seen are thin threads, thick threads, leathers (fine, finest).
MP 100s do sell well but for low ranks of pot making, it's hard to get a decent success rate.
