Description: In this event, each person will simply have to design an item (example below), you have to describe how the player would create the item, and how it would work/what it would do. At the end of the event, hopefully me and one or two other people (volunteers anyone?) will either a) judge and pick a winner, or the more unlikely due to a need for a good number of people b) pick a few to be voted upon.
Now, the construction has to make sense, and you can use any items availabe in the game through legal means, BUT, if you want to create something larger, you can create an item part out of regular items, and then use the part to construct the larger item. Also, the item doesnt have to have a current in game use, it can be an item that would bring in, or assist with, a feature that you would like added to the game (see below)
EXAMPLE, please note, this example is not perfect, you can do yours differently as long as it contains the following fields, you can also include pictures if you can figure out how.
Name: Transmitter
Use: If Notch were to input a minimap to the game, the compass would become useless, but, if the minimap were to work in such a way that it only generated a small chunk of land around your spawn point, and would not display anything else until you placed a transmitter, it could make this work a lot better. For example, the player spawns at point A, the minimap shows point a on the map, and a square around the area, then if the player walked off of the map, it would pretty much be like it is now, they would be walking blind, the map would just show the initial spawn point, because this area has not been added to the map. BUT if the player placed a transmitter, it would work like the spawn point in that it generates a new area on the minimap, making it visible to the player.
Constuction:(showed using the 3 by 3 crafting structure) As to not make compasses obsolete, you would have to make the current compass first. Then you would do the following with (G)old, the (C)ompass (I)ron and (R)edstone dust.
---G--- (Gold in the middle on the top
-R-G-R- (A redstone, then a gold, then another redstone)
-I-C-I (iron, then the compass, then another iron)
The idea behind this is that the gold, iron, and redstone work as a sort of antenna to transmit the map data from the compass to the player.
