Windmill is far safer than Crash Shot for SCC... it just has less range and the knockback makes you run after mobs. Crash Shot is only safer when you're using barrier spikes or at a range where its aiming will be very slow, unreliable and ineffective.
Jando's dual wield damage does seem quite better than his ranged damage, so it should be fine to use CS as an opener and then just switch to melee... With some more life skills to get his ranged damage up, both skill-sets should be pretty much interchangeable for SCC.

Probably be helpful if I give some information.
I'm melee/range with pretty much the important stuff r1 (including Crash Shot), with the exception of r1 refine and r9 carpentry being the only life skills I've ranked and no ap into support shot, defense, counter, charge and only r5 Final hit. At 50/20 I stand at:
242 str (184 base)
w/ Dual wielding and 30str title
and: 96 - 262 attack range
222str (184 base)
w/ 2 handed sword (Jousting Claymore) and 30 str title
and: 185 - 326
and Range is: 137 - 260 (157 - 280 with metalic arrows)
w/ 281 dex (268 base).
That's with a 44-70 Ego.
Equips are currently:
Corundum Delusion Hat
Extraordinary Falcon Clothes + x2 Corundum Giant Acc's (Need to get white horse onto the clothes)
Diamond Raven Shoes (12/2 Role)
WN WPC (Need a suffix on this)
Lvl 27str LLB
r1 Crafted 222 Goddess Caliburn Gem upgraded Broadswords
101 - 167 Jousting Claymore
---
I'll add more examples from SCC HM after I've played with the jousting claymore and Metallic arrows.
I'd suggest getting a higher bow, better bow, and higher dex :) finish support shot and whatnot.
I'm a human ranger, I have well over 300 max. I'd say
crash shot is the safest method of clearing this mission, however it can get costly (MP/Stam). A single shot can pretty much obliterate everything. I mag spam the ghost with a pet on command mode to suicide if needed. Generally it's not. For the boss I send a pet in first to summon the clones while i charge crash shot, when the clones are summoned, I crash shot the boss (with pet still attacking so it doesnt aggro me). Most of the clones should die. Raise the bow again, pets probably dead, crash shot the boss again and finish the last clones (assuming they don't jump you, I use an ego wing bow so they don't). From there I just mag, windmill, mag, windmill the boss until dead. This keeps it stuck, does the damage I need, and wins :D

Do you mean Crash Shot?

I really don't like to go pure archer in that mission. Crash shot is able to pull off a LOT of dmg if it crits, when it doesn't the dmg is so lame its hardly worth the mp. I usually start with a crash and pray it crits, after that i switch for shield and def+mill and crit wm my way in
Unless mobs have their ridiculously fast aggro, its easy to solo it that way
Oh yea poisoned bow works too, if crash doesn't crit but manages to poison the target, that's a lot of dmg you'll be doing there already (notice poison will only proc on the main target, not on the splash targets)

? When they have this aggro, they get up so fast after being knocked down that there's no time to load another crash shot or AR or normal range and aim it. In fact, you can't even windmill spam it at rank 1 windmill. o.O

i meant it's easy when they don't have fast aggro, the way i wrote can be a bit confusing <:

When they have Hyper AI they are ready to kill you before you're even out of the smash/crash shot animations... It's just Nexon's way to ease AI lag without having to actually spend money in much needed hardware.

though if put a campfire on front of you = win :D

its only suicide if you miss and dont have def but its fun. You can do adv with AR + fireball crystals pretty fast.

Oh and RB at 11-12 so I get the full dex boost from leveling. I also mag spam the ghost with a firebolt spamming AI on pet.
I'm also a super glass cannon sporting 11/1 so any hits hurts...badly. Archers are instant kill to me pretty much. My guild leader was kind enough to post a video of his solo runs which was nice and I've been learning from them but it requires to much fancy work to be done with Pets. I can do SCC adv perfectly fine with CS > WM combo's and I'm going to practice SCC HM more.
As for equipment. My ego is the main bow I use, anything else fails and I'm not something besides the Highlander bow will exceed it with S/R upgrades. I abuse my ego (its my main bow) and feed it madly. 27 str atm, getting that to 30 then ranking the other 4 stats to 30 with the awesome power of rubies and whatnot....Will and Luck will focused mainly.
As for broads I'll be looking for an upgrade, probably something with Goddess Spike that will require me to get herbalism. Earthquake enchants will always be a fantasy to me unless I can stop being lazy and actually complete these nao books. I need to get white horse onto the clothing asap but Ciar Adv 3 is trolling me. Shoes don't really need an upgrade and I need to find peaceful for my WN WPC's...but that still needs a certain rank skill to activate.
As for skills I'll be getting r1 Bow and Sword Mastery right away, then capping first aid, rest and getting r1 defense for the added tankness. (Like seriousness, its CRIT CRIT CRIT DEAD). 400 Hp and 20 def+ will make me feel much more comfortable. After that I'll start up Weaving along with playing music and work on Down Attack, Blunt Mastery (for the str), xbow mastery (crit set mainly, low priority) and finish up carpentry.
My character is so fragile that it makes me really wanna to get this def set going but the cost of its going to be insane....g14 reward shield helps me a bit with cost reduction but still the armor is going to be insane...I think I've decided on Defensive Oak Tree, might be changed to Refined Stone if I ever bother going into Alchemy...
----
Anyway, back to strategy. What I do mainly is either, go in with a mount, demount, wm, target aggro with mount then smash skill it, desummon mount, wm mob, summon pet, swipe smash it, repeat till cleared.
I'm going to go and test out SCC HM with this Jousting Claymore and Metallic arrows so I'll brb then post my experiences.
Thanks for the input so far guys. Really appreciate it.
---
EDIT: Ugh....that didn't go well. Raped by Archers, like always. Gonna try crash shot now.
EDIT2: **** THIS ****! I ****ING HATE SCC!

So jealous. ;_; I wish I had the money to RB weekly like that. -needs to go find a job-
Honestly, I think you'll probably do better using melee to solo at your level now as long as the AI isn't the messed up super fast one.

If you're worried about taking hits the most, r9+ mana shield and a decent MP pool is far more effective (yet more AP costly) than any def upgrades. Pot poison makes it cheaper (though an endless supply of MP100s is painfully easy to obtain thanks to rafting).
If you don't care for mana shield, you can also consider infinite DK dex roll under pot poison and just spam away Crash Shot from a safe distance... ego bows aim really fast anyway, and pot poison will never lower your dex stat. That strategy takes a bit more preparation, though, but I know people who can keep it up for hours when they really need to grind SCC effectively.

Things I hate about SCC
- Lancers splash
- FAST aggro
- Dual Archer Aggro
- Droppleganger not standing FUDGING still
- Dying to stupid stuff like fighters breaking the game and 4 hit comboing.
I've raged quit. This is to fudging frustrating to do via solo. Back to Good ol' Their Method.

To be honest, half those issues might be due to nexon's "latency fixes" making it harder on you, and not your skills... When there's hyper aggro I can't run the mission without mana shield or mounted archery, while normal AI lets you just walk in and one shot every spawn with a single critical CS or 2~3 non-crits.
Using an ego bow at a range is pretty safe, albeit slow... and if an enemy gets near you you just use a pet to stun it. This is a safe way to clear SCC even under Hyper AI, but you won't be making record times.
