So I diverted from my original plan on being a Human, as Zid pointed out an Elf is superior at Magic [thank you, by the way :')], so i'm making an Elf. Yay.
I want to start off as a mage, but eventually I WILL hybridize, but far, far later [that includes Melee]. So far, i'm level 10 and I have everything rF [rN Smash], and rD WM. No Icebolt yet, but i'll get that in a few minutes. ;_;
What should my course of action be? Windmill first, obviously, but a lot of people say r5 for Elves [also, Critical Hit]. But what else should I rank in my first three rebirths?
tenkuuu guise u so helpful lah

i would go for critical hit, to boost your windmill damages, as well as your magic damages later, and i myself would rank one of the bolt spells slowly, making sure that it didnt interfere with the windmill training.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. And i'd be ranking Magic Mastery at the same time.

It all depend on the kind of magic user you want to make. Personaly, I would say a powerful magic user doesn't need to rely on windmill. Or more like.. I,m actually surprised ya thinking about windmill when you want to be a mage.

Meh, that's true. But i'm always dreading the part when, 200 levels later, I start ranking Windmill and it's hard as hell.
Although, I'll probably end up spending most of my AP on Magic...

If you are going to hybrid very far in the future.. you'll have CP equipment by then...

True. I'll probably just rank Windmill up one more time, MAYBE, and focus on Magic. :')

If you eventually plan on becoming a melee hybrid, I would reconsider your choice to main an elf. The differences between Human and Elven magic are minor at best, while the superiority of Human melee is quite obvious. If you were to pick up ranged combat instead, playing as an Elf would make much more sense.
Windmill is an excellent skill. Since you plan on ranking melee anyway, grind it all the way to r1 while you can. Rank Critical Hit whenever possible. If you decide that melee isn't right for your play style and exclusively use magic, you can settle for r9. The added willpower won't help magic use very much and you'll rarely use the skill anyway.
Magic Mastery and Meditation will give you some much needed mana while bolt spells and musical knowledge/composing will significantly improve your intelligence.
I'll assume that you've read Trigger's guide. It's very efficient.

Well, I only suggested Elf because it's easier to utilize a low HP build with them while using Magic, which was your specific guidelines when you were a Human.
I'll have to agree with Kaeporo on utilizing a hybrid build with Melee. Humans would have been a better choice for Magic/Melee hybrid than Elves.

True, and i'm still looking to go low HP. And Ranged is also starting to grow on me as well. ~

don't forget elves can 1.. move 1.32x speed of humans (i think its 1.32) and rival an infra's mana and int ... their okay in melee but cant use allot of the new weapons mainly cause if your going magic, bow will not be used and neither will dragon fang etc etc.. 2hand.. so for magic at least... elves have a slight power better then the rest
but that doesnt mean
GIANTS....
cant be awesome mages too... just less mp in trans thats all :(

If you are ever unsure of what to rank, rank Critical Hit. It is always useful in combat. Mages tend to have at least r9 Icebolt or r5 Lightning Bolt to give themselves a 1.5 second load time bolt.

Yeah, so far so good!
Level 17 now. ~
rC Icebolt [need 1AP to rank up to rB]
rF MM
rF Healing
rD WM
And everything else is rF/rN. It's not bad, I guess. Mana Tunnels are a godsend, I kill monsters nearby and when i'm running low on Mana I just run to the nearest tunnel.

Magic Mastery is a must since it has 10+ MP per rank. you should get all your bolts to R1 eventually, but Ice Bolt helps out the most in the beginning I believe. When you have higher INT go with Lightning Bolt, and if you have a CC+4 Fire Wand rank Firebolt :3
ALSO what server are you in? PLEASE SAY RUAIRI :D

Don't bother with WM, it is a waste of your time and ap. A mage doesn't need it.
By becoming a strong mage, you can kill stuff plenty fast with your spells, earn money, and complete dungeons to get -cp gear. It doesn't matter what you start out as, but getting well developed in any area is going to raise your cp, and make the path of going hybrid harder; you will need -cp gear. Even without all that concern, -cp gear makes training easier even if your cp is low.
The days where WM was ever hard to train are -dead-. What made WM hard was that tnn zombies were the only viable training method for getting boss kills in the game. Your next best choices were black bears (not nearly as great of numbers as zombies) or golems on ceo (which would typicaly wtfpwn anyone trying to train WM on them in those days). Getting your cp over the point where zombies became awful would force players to take drastic measures like rebirthing to age 10 and staying level 1, deranking skills with skill reset capsule, using tendering potions (at 5mins duration), or the above mentioned ceo golems, baol final stuff, and so on.
The CP of things you can fight and find in large numbers is much more plentiful these days with hard and adv shadow missions. CP gear also exists, which can make foxes boss kills. WM is ridiculously easy to train compared to the old days, and the mantra of training it first is frankly BS. If you're going melee, train it. Because it is going to be your main attack and way of getting levels and cash. If you're not melee, don't bother with it til you need it. By then you should be able to afford a few pieces of -100cp gear and/or an abysmal pot for -500 cp easily, which will make WM far easier to train then, than it would be to train it first now. The advice to train WM first is actually terrible for most players, because the low damage of a new player will actually make trianing WM much harder than waiting.
Seriously, people need to stop parroting this old mantra, and think for themselves.
