Global climate change.
True its been getting a lot warmer, but its not from a hole we created in our atmosphere. This is proof if anything, that these are natural hundred year cycles that happen consistently in the past and now. Just stop and think about this for a second, many years from now your kids will probably be complaining about humans causing an ice age.
I have a different view of global climate change however. I won't get into the whole CO2 emissions and ozone and ice age etc. I know my fair share on the topic, but its been discussed to death.
My belief on the subject is that there is far less to lose by just going ahead and following up with all our anti-global warming efforts than to continue the way we are now, even if global warming is a hoax and doesn't happen.
The general consensus here is that Global Warming will lead to a faster natural ice age cycle. The result of this idea is not to dick around and preach about how it will happen, but to help delay the cycle's approach as much as possible. Its commonly believed that because Global Warming is caused by CO2 emissions, we need to reduce said CO2 emissions.
Up to this point the discussion is debatable and people can't find a definitive agreeable answer.
However what you get out of continuing the anti global warming campaign is that people invest in new technologies and resources to provide alternate, renewable energy.
It doesn't take much to agree that tension is pretty high when it comes to fossil fuel. Sure theres plenty left, but demand is always on the rise while supply is slowly going down. While research on new energy has picked up in the last decade or two, you'd be very surprised at how many times funding for said research had been cut throughout the century and invested into drilling. Its a big field of study, and they still have a long way to go until its efficient enough to use over fossil fuels. And unsurprisingly enough, there's a rather huge correlation between the amount of funding their research gets and the amount of interest people have shown in global warming in history. You can always look up the numbers yourself.
Theres no loss in investing in improvement of solar power, wind generated, hydraulic energy efficiency (and many others). Theres still a lot more to do in the field, and once perfected we would no longer need fossil fuels for energy, which could be reserved for other uses. Plastic is made from petroleum, so we will still depend on fossil fuels anyways. Cheaper and easier power? Yes please.
While I'm a believer of the general global warming idea, I'm more concerned about the effects the campaign has on people. I mean, given all the good that it has done, what with increased recycling, composting, development of alternative plastics, cheaper papers, etc etc, I don't even mind the idea of campaigning a hoax to get people to start doing their part in the grand scheme of ecology.

This type of attitude will be the death of us all :<
That was a joke. I don't know about global warming, but theres definitely many different types of supplies that are running out fast and will have a huge impact on our lives in the next few generations.
And of course I care about my children and grandchildren. I dunno about my great great great great great great great grand children, but along the line maybe I'll lose interest. I won't be alive for that anyways... unless they develop machine bodies.
