The Two Categories of Female Gamers
Kotaku.com states there are two types of female women who play games, and after reading this article, I have absolutely agreed with this.
"Girl gamers" do it for the attention — "a feeling of security and control from her social circle" — while "female gamers" just want to have friends who share an interest in games. "Since these “gamer girls†get their self-esteem from the praise and adoration of men who play video games, they become dependent on video games as something far more than entertainment."
Sounds pretty emo. The girl gamers are low on self-esteem, and find it fun, and confidence boosting to get praised with an online character. ... I know quite a few people like that.
Girl Gamers and Population
In the past few years, women in gaming have gotten much more attention. Though women are half the population of the world, there are still a small amount of women gamerse out there. Businessmen and Businesswomen in the gaming world are trying hard to increase this number.
According to a survey done in 2004 by the Entertainment Software Association, 25 percent of console players and 39 percent of PC game players are women. Also, 40 percent of online game players are women, these numbers however include casual games.[3] According to another study conducted by the Entertainment Software Association in 2009, 40% of the game playing population is female, and women 18 or older now comprise 34% of all gamers. Also, the percentage of women now playing online has risen to 43%, up 4% from 2004. The same study shows that 48% of game purchasers are female (Entertainment Software Association)[4]. Despite this large and growing number, many gaming companies and also many gamers fail to accept and acknowledge females as gamers and as consumers or employees in the gaming industry. In recognition of the importance of this issue, the International Game Developers Association (an association of companies and individuals in the games industry) has formed a special interest group on Women in Game Development. This is an active field of discussion and a topic in many conferences in the video gaming industry.
Pretty exciting, eh?
G.I.R.L.s
Recently, there has been a surplus of MEN wanting attention.. :what:
Either that, or they want to look at something hot.
After an extremely small study with my own experience and friends', I found that every IRL girl in Mabinogi has a mabi bf. o.o
What about G.I.R.L.s? Anyone who knows one- or is one, answer? xD
Btw, G.I.R.L stands for 'Guy In Real'
G.U.Y.S
Girl Under ....Y:what: -Will Edit When I think of Something-
I have no idea how many of these there are, but I've met quite a few on MapleStory. The hatred of getting hit on, and the fact that guys are more comfortable and less perverted around you makes it an excellent choice.
How many Mabinogi G.U.Y.S' are there? We have atleast one!
In my entire life, I've had one girl character (that I sticked with), and it got married... >.>
Conclusion
There are many girl gamers.
There are many girl gamers seeking attention.
There are many guy gamers seeking attention.
Meep?
This was meant to be short, with questions to the mabinogi community. Sorry if it was all common sense, I just had th throw this fact out there.
Thanks for reading.
