I do agree that the girl needs to be held responsible. Pedo or not, the intercourse was mutual and desired by both of them.
Kids these days.

last time i checked, 13 year olds weren't masters of critical thinking.
lay off the girl, people. she might be an idiot, but she hardly deserves jail. apparently she was traumatized by the event and is undergoing therapy so hopefully that'll teach her a lesson.
though I wouldnt let her leave the house to do anything alone until she was at least 20, myself.

hmm...what if they were actually in love?
You never know.
People in love can wait for their partner to not get them in trouble legally for both their sakes, no?

Honestly, stupidity isn't an excuse. How was she traumatized? I didn't exactly see her object to the countless times they had sex.
If I was her Mother, I'd punish the **** out of that child. She won't get any sense knocked into her regardless.
Someone needs to smack that child. -_-

Oh, to the comment about them actually being in love....
Love doesn't justify stupidity.

Skank. Why couldn't she just slut around middle (high? I dunno, been too long) like a normal 13 year old girl.
Yes. The guy is an immoral pedophile too. He deserves to go to jail, fry, whatever.
She's "traumatized?" Yeah okay. I liked to lie to get out of punishment when I was 13 too. I mean, how much more of a skank would she have looked like if she said "Yeah, I love him and wanted all this illegal, immoral sex. Don't judge me though ^^;"

I'm saying, 13 year olds
aren't smart. their frontal lobes, the part that is related to reasoning, critical thinking and planning, isn't even close to being fully developed. You know who the adult is in this situation?
THAT is who should get the full punishment. NOT the child. Although like I mentioned earlier, the girl needs to learn her lesson, like any other person.
as for traumatization, I can't speak to that. the article didn't go into detail. we shouldn't make assumptions about the nature of their relationship being fully mutual either.

So I'm fairly certain that "don't meet people you only know online" is drilled into our heads from a very young age. I mean, I even saw a Finneas and Ferb commercial on Nickelodeon during after-school TV talking about the safety rules of being online.
And you're saying that the adult is 100% at fault, while the child is 0% at fault? No. Not happening. She knew what she was doing. She knew it was wrong. She did it anyway. She accepted a cell phone to communicate with him, even though she KNEW she wasn't allowed to have one. She met up with him several times to have sex.

I think that shows more insight into your beliefs than the child's considering the ambiguity of the article, especially if you believe I said the child deserved 0% punishment. People see what they want to see.

They need to make laws where its illegal to have sex with someone who is an adult when you're not.
Now it works both ways.

Um: "THAT is who should get the full punishment. NOT the child. Although like I mentioned earlier, the girl needs to learn her lesson, like any other person."
And I'm speaking solely of legal punishment. Not social chastising. She needs to be legally punished. Not just a slap on the wrist and a "don't do that again." She knew goddamn well what she was doing. ******THIS PART IS JUST SPECULATION OF WHY SHE DID IT****** So what if she was pressured into it by her peers. We're taught from an early age not to give in to peer pressure, especially when it's something as illegal and immoral as this. So what if she wanted to rebel and disobey her parents. So what if she "didn't think it was wrong." If I think mugging isn't wrong, then I can do it all I want, right? No. Hell no. If she's mentally unstable and can't help it, lock her up in a mental institution until she's fixed. We don't need this kind of drain on tax money, society, etc.

Mama wrote on 2011-02-09 23:42
yes, I said the child does not deserve full punishment. I'm glad you remembered that much.
Hell, why don't we throw every single child immediately in jail once involved in any sort of crime and give them the full punishment while we're at it? They're on the same page as grown, educated adults! /sarcasm
The rest is your opinion. you are assuming she knew what she was doing. circumstantial evidence does not count.
believe what you want, and speculate all you want, but arguing on something with a subjective, moral foundation is not worth it.

All the people who accuse the girl of being a slut and asking that she face charges as well... really aren't thinking this through.
13 year olds are easily influenced. There is no doubt that even if their sexual relationship was consensual, he got her to that point through manipulation beforehand. This notion should be extremely simple to understand. This is also why there are minimum age laws for this kind of activity, ranging between 16 and 18, depending on the state and/or country.
