+rep for the laughs
Well it's not just MS players who are confused at Mabinogi's concept, it's pretty much everyone else who is new at it.
You really dont' get this kind of flexibility in many games. The closest I can think of is Runescape...

xP well mabi is known to have a pretty big newbie barrier: meaning it's difficult for a person to get into this game.

lol funny. yeah mabi has a really big learning curve, nexon has been trying to reduce it by giving new players all these freebies o3o

This is one of the many reasons why I don't like our Online Gaming Community.

Well a lot of Maple players find it hard to grasp the concept because they're so used to restricted initiatives.

This is why Mabinogi has an average rating of 3/10 from players.

At least the balance between the game isn't as restircted in Mabinogi, but when you concentrate too much on one certain aspect of the game, you get bored faster. And you have a choice in the game, unlike Maplestory which bored me within like the first few minutes, lol...

yeah people can't get past like the first few minutes of it. they think it's too confusing or boring mainly because you have a lot of freedom and they don't know what to do.

Problem with Maplestory was that the gameplay was focused on DPS.
And with DPS in mind, you will only use ONE attack. Your strongest one. Occasionally this "best" attack might change based on the situation, but its usually just one attack. There are stronger attacks later in the game but usually come with a cool down or something, so it doesn't even count.
Repeat one attack endlessly, use potions. But you don't know this because you're given the illusion of control in your character's stat and skill build, even though everyone just takes the blandly obvious optimum dps build path anyways.
Mabinogi gives you no direction, and tons of options. Players become confused.
The best formula for a successful money making game is to tell the players what they want, while pretending to give them what they think they want.
