  But you don't know that for sure unless you could test on a clean windows 7 and xp. If you can't, it could very well be an outside program that you have on all your computers, and even then it could be the program itself that's not compatible. Like i said, at least give the name of what you are trying to install so I can give you an exact solution.

  OS Elitism is pointless. Linux has just as many flaws as Windows, if not more due to the lack of certain productivity features. Its main saving grace is the customization factor, which is useless to most users of the system. And don't even spout 'security', because its just as insecure out of the box as Windows, just less people care to put the time and/or effort into cracking it.

  Few things:
  
  Are the programs you're installing made for Vista AND XP? If so, theres a delay caused by a requirement of the application having to look up what its suppose to install under (Different %appdata% path, different requirements for security, etc).
  
  A lot of games, and programs use a pre-built installer (Don't remember name off the top of my head), and it is generally slow as well, as it grabs system data (Hard drive information, RAM information, etc). Due to stupid precautions by Microsoft, Vista doesn't always supply the information instantly.
  
  Also, depending on the version of Vista (If you're using Home Basic, of course you're going to be slow), you'll be slower. Hardware also has a lot to do with it, as Vista is a hardware whore.

  He's trying to install on Vista: He is unlikely to have XP or W7. Unless an outside program has a memory leak, or is prioritized for CPU usage, it wouldn't really effect an install (Its unlikely he'd be running a lot of programs if he's doing a fresh install of anything).

  you are very sure that it's not a x64 compatibility problem, antivirus/firewall blocking, a non-admin account (uac problem), game installer problem, corrupted download, or that it the program is old and made before vista and needs compatibility mode to function. you don't even know if his screen freezes or not; if the button literally takes "forever" (ie infinite amount of time) to (never) load or that it just takes a long time, or if the dialog even appears at all, or if he has the same hardware on all computers.

  the real problem here is that the OP is not willing to say what game he's trying to install for some reason.

  If you read what I posted, I went over the most common problems.
  
  Also, the way he worded the question implies that hes had the issue before, and its frustration caused by multiple occurences, in which case its very unlikely it would be the same problem, which would bring us back to the possibilities I stated.
  
  If he doesn't have x64, I'm going to laugh at this attempt at trying to put down my previous post.
  
  An AV/Firewall wouldn't affect the initial install of a game unless the game is streaming the download to the computer, or if it is in the database as a potential hazard.
  
  If it is a UAC problem, Vista would prompt him for it, or at most it would tell him he has insufficient access.
  
  That was stated in my post, under the common installer that is used by nearly every company for releases.
  
  From what he said in his second post, he's had the issue with multiple computers. I doubt he used the same download on all of them.
  
  First scenario I mentioned.
  
  He never mentioned freezing, he said it was slow to show the install button.
  
  He would have worded it differently if it was an indefinite amount of time, rather than used the wording 'forever' to exaggerate the time it takes.
  
  I never implied he had the same hardware on all computers, only that its likely that the hardware doesn't fully support Vista. Vista-ready systems aren't actually Vista ready, they're only marketed as such, which got Dell, HP, Microsoft, and all the retailers in trouble for incorrect advertisements.
  
  I mentioned hardware as a possibility, nothing more.
  
  Where did I blame hardware? I pointed out that it could be a hardware issue, which is fairly common. It could be his hardware is slow, is dated (Hardware over a year or so old slows down, its only logical to consider that, and MOST computers are over a year old), it could be as simple as an overly fragmented harddrive, or bad sectors which could be cleaned up by chkdsk.
  
  Before you get an attitude, and try to bash someone thats actually stating things that might be helpful to him (Rather than telling him to install the program on different operating systems, both of which would of course have different results than the operating system he has).
  
  Your first post you asked for specs of his system, a screenshot of the problem (Its a slow loading intaller, you can't relaly screenshot that), and the name of the game (Which isn't even required, because as i said before, he worded it in a way that implies he's had the issue on multiple games). He didn't respond with any specs of his system, and says every system with Vista in his home has the same problem.
  
  I posted common issues caused by Vista itself, excluding UAC issues, and x86/x64 issues, because well... Most games don't really have a problem anymore with that, now do they? I assumed he was an above average tech savvy person due to the way he posted, and due to his trying of multiple systems before posting this topic. Because of his attempt at installing on different systems, I also assumed he google'd for basic help regarding his issue.
  
  You on the other hand assumed he's an idiot (At least by the way you posted your drivel), and than attack me when I at least supplied some meaningful information that pertains to his question.
  
  Word of advice: Don't bash someone that knows what they're talking about, because all that'll happen in the end, is that you'll look like a huge idiot (Which you do).

  Again, you're assuming he isn't tech savvy, which you don't know for sure. If it were complain about Vista he would have done more bashing of it, rather than asking WHY it was slow.
  
  In that instance, my posts would have been completely helpful into telling him why. If he was bashing, it would provide more to bash about Vista. With no information provided, I can only provide plausible situations that can cause slow installation.
  
  You offered no solution, other than to say to try an install on another OS: That isn't what he wanted, otherwise he would have done it. You have no justification for pointing out whether or not I help him, as at least my posts were informative, while yours were pointless and a waste of time to read.
  
  If you're not raging, what are you doing than? You resorted to pitiful attacks because I posted potentially helpful information, while you were posted drivel (I like the word drivel, as it clearly defines what idiots spouts, so sue me). Nothing you have done in this thread is in any way productive, so why don't you clear out and leave technical support to someone that knows what they're doing?

  Before you try to post other useless posts: I'm going to be more knowledgeable on this, and most other subjects relating to computers, seeing as its what I do for a living. While I don't deal all that much with Vista as most of my job deals almost entirely with server issues, I have more experience due to outside consultation for corporate networks.
  
  If you really think you're more qualified than I am, feel free to argue, otherwise clear out, and shut up.

Installing on another OS was not a solution, the point was to say that Vista was not necessarily the problem, unless the OP has made sure (which I assumed she probably didn't), as the thread title suggests. I think we can both agree that I have asked for more information on the problem. Sorry if I sound harsh, but that's just the way I prefer to type and think; I use contempt (i.e. sarcasm) to in order to express disagreement and persuade out of boredom and annoyance, not necessarily anger (i.e. "rage"; high arousal emotions rarely occur for me). Contempt is actually widely expressed over the internet due to the authority minimization effect from disinhibition ("every unknown person is equal on the internet"). But, I don't actually mean to express real negativity towards anyone.
  
  Yes, I do tend to assume most people here are not "tech savvy", as most "tech savvy" people usually would want to figure out the solution by themselves (or by finding existing solutions) and would not be asking here for tech support, especially on a non dedicated tech support forum unrelated to the game that the OP has. Additionally, I assumed this because the OP did not give the standard information for tech support (which is a mistake commonly seen on many tech support forums), so I was confused as to what kind of solution the OP really wanted.
  
  Because of the lack of information and the thread title, I inferred the OP had a distaste for Vista, and thus also assumed that it was more of a complaint rather than a problem description.
  
  Also, since I was drowsy, I interpreted the OP's post as more of a (specific software error) "the next install dialog window did not appear" scenario. Not the (indefinite problem) "the install was taking too long" as you were thinking of.

  Productivity features like...?
  If less people want to crack a system then there would be less viruses/whatever. Wouldn't that make it safer? Then when something does happen is easier to fix because the information from Googling would be more exact.
  
  Also, I use Linux because...
  1. It actually runs smoothly on my computer.
  2. The entire system layout and GUI is more logical than Windows. Personally I like Vista more than XP for this reason also.
