I never looked of it that way.
They ruin my life drain.
"Hey, can you guys also invite my wife to your party, shes a pro healer" which resulted in the healer sitting out more than half the time, only healing her man friend since he was the only guy in the party taking too many hits. At the end she got the best end-chest reward...
I don't see them any useful. I find combat characters that carry high rank healing more useful. My giant has r3 healing, mostly use it when I have party members with less than half hp or deadly while facing a mob. I do a quick healing for them so they wont die from a random screw up. Also after clearing a room I try full recovering party member (those who call pets to heal them). At the end, anyone can be a healer, being a healer isnt an excuse to be sitting in the corner and healing your party w/o fighting >:V
But I expect the person claiming to be a "healer" to be using lots of magic attacks... Most mages have r1 healer and they don't consider themselves as healers.

This has happened to me a few times. Gets so annoying, especially when the "healer" is the one dying the most.

Be more considerate to Alchemists. >:C
Healers are actually good because of the wound system.
If you get severely wounded your options are
1. shrug it off and probably die more
2. drink wound pots
3. sit and take a minute mending
4. get healed by a party healer
1 is obviously bad
2 nobody does since it's a pain to keep up
3 is a waste of time
4 is then the best option
The problem is, most healers are not geared to be good healers. It takes a large MP pool and reserve of MP pots to be able to constantly heal through high wounding enemies.
It's also easier to keep people with less HP alive (less wounding) than high HP, due to auto-deadly coming sooner. Which is ironic.
Ever gotten the ones that ran out of MP pots 8D?
i wanna be a good healer since im not that good at being offencive...
