To anybody who has a DSi or DSi XL...
Is it that much better than the DS Lite?
I might need to trade in my old Lite for a new one. Gamestop is offering +$25 Trade-in value, and I have a $50 gift card from way back in (lol) 2006 that I haven't used yet.
I can't tell if my DS is in good condition because I only have a worn out G6 Flash Cart which already past it's prime. I don't have any legit games to test out.
Bigger screens, better sounds, and cameras that I will never use draw me in.
But the higher cost, lesser battery life, and GBA slot that I will never use turns me away.
Or should I wait until the 3DS is released?
I'm missing out on things like Spirit Tracks and M&L 3 though...

If you leave it closed a DSi can be left on for over 2 weeks. Nuff' said. :2thumb:

I have a DSi and honestly it was a big waste of money for me. I suppose it would be good if you play DS a lot, but I guess I don't. Anyways here's a few helpful observations:
- The ability to change the backlight ingame is INCREDIBLY useful.
- The difference in screen size is noticeable.
- The main screen is aesthetically better to look at
- One thing that isn't commonly talked about is the ability to turn wireless off and on -- you can go to settings and turn wireless off to save battery. BUT, if you want to play local or online, you have to exit the game, go back to settings, and turn it on. It's really annoying.
- The camera doesn't have a zoom, you have to hold it really still to take a not blurry picture, and has extremely low resolution. Here's a picture I took with the camera so you can see the resolution
- Playing with the camera is quite fun, for the first week. You'll never even touch the photo editing stuff after the initial excitement.
- The inside camera can be used as a mirror if you need one, lol
- When you take a picture it makes a really loud SNAP sound, so you can't take pictures of people without them knowing. Also it's just plain embarrassing having the snap sound go off in public. You can't turn the sound off even if you have the volume off.
- The sound player is just about as good as a $15 mp3 player. It has bad sound quality and bad volume control.
- The sound recorder can record sounds up to 10 seconds. Wow, how useful.
- The internet browser isn't that great. You can't customize the zoom either.
- Flipnote studio is really cool if you're into drawing. The ability to add sound to it though is really flawed.
- From my experience the downloadable games are usually kinda fun, beatable in like an hour, and not something you'd want to replay. It does depend on how much the game costs though.
All I can think of off the top of my head...

One difference that I noticed between the DSi and the DS lite is that the lite used virtually no battery when it was closed. I've actually had the DSi die on me closed in my pocket before, which has NEVER happened to me with my lite.

Just wait three days and they'll have another POS DS that you can buy.

Yes! Now I can carry around a compact without people giving me weird looks because I'm a dude! :awesome::XD:
That's quite a bit of really fun improvements, though I don't think I'd pay +$40 for them.
Another thing is that it comes in Cyan instead of Cobalt, and I think the Cobalt/Black combo looks pretty epic.
I'll have to see how much they offer for my Black one. I can walk away with a refurbished DS Lite without paying anything since they only cost $90, so I might just do that lol.

I am going to wait with my Phat DS and buy a 3DS when it's out.

Same here, except replace Phat with Lite.
I was totally gonna buy the DSi too, and then I heard about the 3DS and decided against it.

I still have my fat DS, and I'm not switching. I can't stand tiny handhelds 'cause my hands are too large for them to remain comfortable in my grip for very long. And by large, I mean really long fingers and a wide palm, not fat. =P
Besides, the fat DS is built strong like a tank.
Also if I want a multimedia center/internet browser I have my PSP and therefore don't need a DS to perform those functions.

the only reason you would want a DSi is the DSiWare or DSi only games planned for it
anyways they're going to announce the 3DS in the next month at E3 convention

DSi is good, but if you already have a DSlite, its pointless.
Its just a slight upgrade, AND a technical downgrade (can't play GBA games).
I like it, but its "main bonus features" aren't as good as they sound. The ware shop has almost nothing good in it, and the camera isn't all that great. The browser is slow and can't use applications like flash.
Overall, its got better L and R buttons, better body, and CAN check your emails. Worth getting? Only if you don't already have a DS lite.
Wait for the 3DS otherwise.

Fixed owo
really, it's only way we can get an accurate depiction of the 3DS

E3 is always in June I think.
I think it's a big waste of money if you have a DS already.
Most modern cellphone have cameras so if you carry a cellphone you're not really missing out.
Also FlashCart have homebrews not sure if they're better than the DSi's but I doubt they have a Gameboy,Snes and Genesis emulator.
Also I'm not sure if the G6 will work for the DSi since Nintendo has put a block on FlashCarts so my precious R4 wont work.

The newer flashcarts are DSi enabled. (example: R4 --> R4i) I'm not sure if it's a whole new card or just a firmware upgrade, but I went ahead and ordered an enabled one since it was only $2 extra.
As for already owning a DS Lite, if I need to do a trade-in then it doesn't matter what I have right now, since I'm trading it in.
I just need to decide if it's worth throwing an extra 40 bucks in.:what:
