  It's not abusable, if you need medical care then you need it. A doctor isn't going to do something to you or prescribe you medicine (which is also covered btw) unless you need it.
  
  Canada isn't some barbaric ****hole where you're only allowed to need so much medical care until the government decides you're too sick to be allowed to live unless you're rich.
  
  A lot of European countries and even Cuba have very similar systems as Canada, too.
  
  My grandparents go to the US every summer, and before they do they make sure they have all kinda of crazy insurance just in case they get sick or hurt over there. That's how bad the US is. If it's more than a bandaid you're ****ed.

  If you go to Canada without a residential permit you won't get the health care, unless its an emergency of sorts, like getting in an accident.
  
  I'm not sure what happens if you're there on a visiting/vacation visa, but I doubt you can go there to get your cancer surgery or something just because you're in Canada. Though I'm sure they'll let you see a doctor if you're sick, but since health care is provided you do need to file out some paperwork as an immigrant.

  Theres always prison labor. A lot of people in jail work for their stay.
  And its not really "comfortable". Theres a lot of complaints that go unheard.

  That would make the insane only more insane. Put a perfectly sane man wrongfully accused of murder in an insane assylum and he'll go mad in a matter of weeks. Anything he says will be deemed INSANE no matter how much reason was put. All his shouts of agony will be on deaf ears. Any complaints about mistreatment will be ignored. Prisons are meant to be CORRECTIONAL.

  We either need to stop making stupid laws or we need to have prisoners get less to save money. Comeon now...the US is dead broke with trillions and trillions of dollars in our deficit. Cuts have to be made somehow and the stupid politicians won't cut their own pay either.

  If you're gonna cut down the last rest of basic life quality ensurance then you could aswell go into insolvency. That at least is catastrophic enough to force people to seek for new ways, instead of crying about how cuts over cuts have to be made and in the end there's nothing left to cut but heads.
  
  We don't simply need less spending, we need more spending efficiency. Not just the US, Europe aswell.
  
  Then of course a catastrophe does carry the very real risk of opportunistic populists gaining enough leeway to turn limbo into hell.

  or the psychopaths, who are not correctional in any sense of the word, for they make up roughly 25% of the system.
  
  prisons are places more apt to be somewhere where you get all your horror stories from.

  You failed to mention how one of the top 5 from the articles specifically states that the inmates are required to pay an additional fee ("$75 to $127 a day") to stay in the nicer cells. This sounds more like prison life for the rich and famous, showing once again that even when rich people aren't above the law, they still do better off than the poor when imprisoned.

  I didn't say anything about insane people...
  But they have their own cells. o_o I can't find a picture of one, but they have closed doors (not bars, actual doors) with small windows. They also don't get cell mates.

  It's still stupid either way. You are in prison cause you broke the law. You shouldn't have the option of something THAT nice. No matter how rich you are. What kind of treatment did Lindsey Lohan get while we are on this subject?

  National defense in the most cases. That's the official reason, and there aren't many other good reasons for a modern republic. You don't really need to put that much money into an army though. Many European states have very intimidating and advanced combat capabilities yet their military budget doesn't even reach the US budget's ankle.
  
  There's some nifty things we gained from military technology though. Such as modern aeronautics. And don't forget the GPS-system! Very big one.
  
  
  Also the military is an economic sector that provides work and training for innumerous people. Not all of the military budget is cost.

  I think one of the main concerns for abuse was that free health care would allow people to waste doctors' time with stuff that doesn't actually need attention. It's true that expensive health care would mean people who need it/should get it may not, but if it's free then doesn't that mean people who don't need it/shouldn't get it might go?
  Therefore there needs to be some limit, a floor to how sick you are, before you get admitted to a hospital or allowed to see a doctor.
  
  I think that's what was meant by abuse/limits.
  
  And taxes add to a higher cost of living, which still contributes (albeit probably less so) to a person's wealth (or lack thereof).
