Minecraft is constantly receiving updates and additions to the game, has more depth, and incredibly huge replay value.
Terraria is like that one game that's really fun the first time you play, and after you beat it there's not much to do.

I prefer Minecraft, has better replays as everyone has said, oh, and even if you have the top gear in Minecraft, there is still a challenge and stuff to do, with Terraria, you can solo everything with top gear and can't do much except build farms and expand your buildings in a linear fashion unlike in Minecraft.

You can always try playing the game on Hardcore mode.
Also, dev team says upcoming updates will make Terraria "150% more difficult."

Glad this thread is made cause I might buy either...
Though I'm leaning towards Terraria since it is cheaper.

Minecraft is definitely the way to go, you can download it for free, that way you can get both!
Minecraft is really one of those games I just can't stop playing.

TooManyItems mod > INVEdit. Unless you're making invincible items, or backing up your inventory when you die so you have what you lost.

Minecraft. Terraria is great in other ways, but Minecraft just has more replay value. As in, different map seeds actually matter how a game turns out.

Though to be perfectly honest, I'd just go with Dwarf Fortress >:V
Build and manage a super dwarven fortress, have a bunch of dwarf mine, and defend it against sieges (Dwarf Fortress) >>> Build house, kill monstahs, mine materials upgrade equipment, summon bosses for moar equipment. (Terraria) > Build a house and cower inside it, go out to kill a few zombies or mine your ass off yourself. (Minecraft)
And it's free, wee.
