I take vitamins daily, and did notice it helps you feel less tired and more energized.
I ran out the other day, and my mom bought me a new bottle. But unlike the normal multivitamins I normally take (which has about 100% to 200% of each vitamin and minerals I need in a day), she got me just plain Vitamin C.
I know vitamin C is good for you, and probably the most common type of vitamin, but here is the problem.
Each tablet is supposedly 877% daily dose of vitamin C. Now I'm no expert, but that sounds like too much. Does anyone know if it poses any issues to take approximately 1000% daily set dose of vitamin c (based on the tablet plus my diet)?
Does anyone know if taking such overkill amounts of vitamin C has any noticeable benefits at all?
And would anyone recommend I take these along with multivitamins, or should I try rotating one each day?
In other tidbits of info, I also take omega 3 as I heard it does fantastic things for your body.

Too much is bad. Just googling it came up with this.
The people most at risk for this type of vitamin overdose are ones who consume vitamin c supplements on a daily basis. This can be in the form of a chewable tablet, capsule, powder/drink, or even as part of a daily multivitamin supplement. Now, that’s not to say that you shouldn’t take vitamin c supplements, because they really can be quite a healthful addition to your diet, but one should be very careful about the amount that they consume on a daily basis.
It is safe to take up to 1000mg of vitamin c; however the daily recommended dose is only 70mg.
Minor symptoms include a strong smell during urination, bloating or gas, nausea, and an upset stomach. One might also experience sores on the inside of their mouth. Diarrhea could also occur, but it’s harder to use this as a symptom of vitamin overdose as diarrhea can be caused by so many other foods or issues.
In a more severe case of overdose one might notice the following symptoms: the development of kidney stones, a greater need for oxygen, and deficiencies in B vitamins as well as copper. These symptoms usually only show up in more severe cases in which at least 6,000mg of vitamin c has been consumed, or when someone takes a large amount of vitamin c and other vitamins or minerals.

P.S. Based on your 877% daily dose tablets, that comes to 613.9mg a day, I do believe, which isn't over 1000mg.
But yeah, maybe you should rotate. 877% does sound pretty bad. @.@

From personal experience I had an overdose of iron and that gave me stomach aches and problems doing my business. Basically too much of anything can kill you and Vitamin C is no exception. Gladly Vitamin C is soluble in water so taking the pill is fine as long as you drink water and be cautious of food with Vitamin C.
In the case of excess Vitamin C, I don't know any benefits of having more than required.

Worst it'll do is cause diarrhea.

How do you even get 6000 mg of vitamin c in a day without chugging pills?
Anyways, minor symptoms worry me as I have frequent diahrrea caused by my careless tanking of lactose intolerance (drinking milk now, I'll pay for it later by waking up to stomach pain). I really dont want ANOTHER reason to have discomfort in my stomach area...
Also sores in mouth sound awful painful.
I'll give it a shot and see how it effects me. Hopefully it wont get in the way of work.

Vitamin C is a water soluble molecule so you're not going to get poisoned (unless you eat the whole damn bottle).
Also, pro tip: cut the pill in half to avoid overdose and then you also have a supply that lasts twice as long.

I think almost all vitamin supplements set a limit of how much you should take - and I'm sure they consider typical / average daily consumption of a typical person so they don't harm anyone. Or else it would be recalled? I take MultiVites - gummies (limit is two gummies a day)! I'm sure they aren't as high of % since it's a dietary supplement~ maybe 200%.
Overall, I wouldn't worry so much. Unless you're taking like 2398792835 different vitamins at once.. Just take as much as necessary but don't overdo it. And you should be fine (:
IF you are still worried, write down all the ones you take and bring it to your doctor & ask!
I know a friend who ate a whole vitamin gummies thing and had to go to the doctor emergency. I've another friend who had a bunch and didn't feel any different. I guess it may depend on the person too.

It won't hurt you at all. You'll urinate the excess vitamin C you ingest.
I'm sure your kidneys are fully functional, so I would not worry.

I'd just eat more fruit. They've got other good stuff too.
And they're pretty tasty.

I agree. Fibre and everything
also, you drink milk and you're lactose intolerant? Good lord D:
that's like self-inducing period cramps for your morning cereal. Just buy lactase, man. I always carry some with me and learned to swallow it without needing water.

No mama. They be expensive. And I can tank the symptoms, like a boss.
Speaking of which, brb bathroom.
Bu yeah. Was wondering if there are benefits to having so much vitamin c though. If there isnt I could save money by splitting each tablet in half and taking 250 mg daily instead.

break the vitamin C ones into smaller pieces, even half is more than daily req.
I remember when I was little my mom would dump the bottle into a ziplock bag, wrap that in a thin cloth, then smash it up with a rolling pin. Then she'd give me tiny pieces every day. And now that I think about it, it's a good idea and I should probably do it myself.

There aren't. Split the pills with a medicine cutter.

There's a product known as Emergen-C which you can put in a glass of water, stir it, and then drink it to get 1,000mg of Vitamin C. Even worse. And my parents make me drink it. At least it tastes good though.

Cut the vitamins with a sharp knife (to avoid more vitamin c from chipping off)
and eat like... half of them.
the cat thinks those vitamins are for people with a desperate need for Vitamin C
The cat's master actually needs cholesterol
so eating eggs daily wont harm her.
